Ciao! Flytographer’s 7th Global Photographer Meetup in Rome

Rome, Italy | April 13 – 16, 2026

Something a Little Different This Time

Every meetup we’ve hosted has been special in its own right – but our 7th Global Photographer Meetup in Rome marked the beginning of something new for us. This year, we tried something a little different: a mini meetup.

Instead of our usual multi-day, large-group format, we scaled things down intentionally – fewer photographers, fewer planned activities, and just two core days together rather than four. And honestly? It was kind of magic.

The smaller group meant we could actually sit down with everyone. Have real conversations. Hear each other’s stories. There was no rushing through a detailed agenda or getting lost in a big crowd – just genuine, meaningful connection over good food, golden light, and cobblestoned streets.

Beyond the warmth it created in the room, the mini meetup format opens up an exciting possibility for the future: more meetups, more often, in more corners of the world. We can bring photographers together in different regions without the massive coordination lift of a full-scale event. And for photographers joining a meetup for the first time, a smaller, more intimate gathering is so much less intimidating – and so much more collaborative.

We also made a conscious choice to leave more unstructured time in the schedule. More free time meant our introverts had room to breathe and recharge, and our extroverts? They wandered the streets of Rome together, cameras in hand, soaking in every beautiful corner they could find. Because of course they did. 📸

Day 1

Sunday, April 13th

Arrivals! One by one, 15 photographers from 10 different countries touched down in Rome from Cancun to Dubai, London to Ljubljana, Seattle to Salzburg and more. They checked into their accommodations and slowly began gravitating toward each other the way Flytographers always do – like they’d known each other for years.

That evening, we gathered for our welcome aperitivo: drinks, bites, and that unmistakable first-night energy. There’s nothing like the buzz of a meetup kicking off. The piazzas were glowing, the wine was flowing, and the group was already laughing like old friends.

We couldn’t have asked for a better start.

Day 2

Monday, April 14th

We kicked things off at our workshop space bright and early – welcome gifts, hugs, and a message from the HQ team to set the tone for the days ahead. 💙 Then it was straight into one of our all-time favourite meetup traditions: the Photo Scavenger Hunt. Teams fanned out across the neighbourhood, laughing, problem-solving, and doing what they do best. (Competitive? Our photographers? Never. 😂)

After a lunch break to refuel, we regrouped in the afternoon for two back-to-back sessions that generated some seriously great conversation: how to optimize your portfolio, and how to earn 5-star reviews. Both talks sparked great discussion and plenty of note-taking.

But the moment that truly stopped the room? A customer story that gave us all the chills. Francesca in Rome had captured a family shoot back in 2018. Earlier this year, Mankica in Ljubljana captured that very same family – and they recreated the exact same pose with their son, now eight years older. Two photographers, one family, eight years apart. That is why we do what we do.

Free time followed – and yes, some photographers absolutely went straight out into Rome with their cameras. We wouldn’t expect anything less.

The evening brought one of our most-loved meetup traditions: the Sunset Photo Walk through the gorgeous Trastevere neighbourhood. Cobblestone streets, golden light, ivy-draped walls – and a group of photographers turning their lenses on each other for once. Trastevere is made for this. The light was showing off and so was everyone in it.

Day 3

Tuesday, April 15th

Day three started before sunrise – and it was absolutely worth every early alarm.

At 6:15 am, our group gathered at the Colosseum for a Sunrise Photo Walk with a hired model couple. Soft morning light, an ancient icon of the world, and two subjects to photograph. We’ll let you imagine the images that came out of this one. If there’s a better way to spend a Tuesday morning, we haven’t found it.

Back at the workshop space, the morning shifted into Open Editing Time – a favourite for a different reason. There’s something really special about sitting together in a room full of talented photographers who are learning from each other and creating together. We paused for a team photo in everyone’s new Flytographer hats! 🧢

Photographers also had the chance to book 1:1 slots with members of the HQ team to get personal feedback on their profiles or create fresh content for social media. These sessions are always a highlight – there’s so much value in having dedicated, focused time together.

After a free afternoon (more wandering, more photos, more gelato – obviously), we wrapped our time together the only right way: a farewell wine bar, followed by a long table dinner. We couldn’t forget our “bathroom dance party ritual” where we all pile into a bathroom together, blast a song and dance (don’t ask how that one started… 😂). Stories were shared, memories were made, and we lingered long past when we probably should have said goodnight. The kind of dinner you don’t want to end. 🍷

Day 4

Wednesday, April 16th

Our optional bonus tourist day! For those who weren’t quite ready to say goodbye to Rome – or each other – there was one more day to explore the city together. Because if you’re already in Rome, why rush home?

Until We Meet Again

Rome gave us everything we hoped for and more. The smaller group, the intentional pace, the mix of structured learning and unstructured wandering – it all came together beautifully. The conversations were deeper, the laughs were louder, and the connections felt real in the way only in-person time can create.

There is something genuinely extraordinary about gathering a group of people who are each world-class at what they do, who share the same values, and who get it – the love of light, of people, of moments frozen in time. Watching new friendships form across continents over a shared aperitivo or a sunrise photo walk never gets old.

To everyone who joined us in Rome: thank you. For showing up, for opening up, and for making this little experiment in a smaller, more intimate meetup format such a resounding success.

We can’t wait to do it again – next time, in a new city, with new faces and familiar ones. 🌍

Ciao for now!
