1. Who? Considering the Occasion

The first step to identifying suitable photoshoot locations is considering the type of trip you are going on. Are you travelling with the whole family, or is it a solo adventure? For multigenerational family photos, an important consideration may be transportation and mobility! 🚙 Herding grandparents and/or toddlers across the city at sunrise? Bold choice. We recommend staying close to home base, especially for early morning photo sessions (yes, we generally recommend sunrise to beat the heat and the crowds!). Flying solo? This is your permission to be selfish with your route selection (and also update your headshots!).

The occasion will also help you determine the destination if you haven’t already decided. Whether a city escape or beach getaway will be better for your group, we have 350+ destinations with local photographers ready to capture your vacation. If you have multiple destinations on your itinerary and want to choose one for your Flytographer shoot, browse photographer profiles in each city and filter by your preferred date to see who is available. 📅

Fly tip: If you can’t decide, we have a World Tour discount available when you book more than one Flytographer shoot on the same trip. After you book the first one, reach out to our Concierge Team to get a code for 10% off your next shoots on the same trip!

2. What? Identifying the Must-Sees & Dos

The next step is to figure out where you want to spend time in your destination. A great way to start is to research what you want to see and do on your trip! If it’s your first time travelling to a big city like Tokyo, you won’t be able to see it all at once, so it’s important to understand what to prioritize for this trip. Have you saved any travel videos on Instagram? Do you have a Pinterest board for your trip? Do you like to weave in hidden gems, stunning views and green space when you travel? Maybe there are landmarks or National Parks that you definitely want to check off the list. Save all of these locations to a list on Google Maps so you can get your bearings! 🗺️

3. Where? Choosing Your Destination and Where to Stay

Each neighbourhood or area of a city is unique, so deciding where to stay is an important factor that will influence the overall vibe of your trip! Our best advice? Pick your vibe before you pick your place to land each night, because discovering your Airbnb is in the wrong neighbourhood after booking is so not it. One way to find great locations for your accommodations in a new city is to do some online research about each neighbourhood before even looking into hotels!

In New York City, each borough has its own personality. 🏙️ Brooklyn is trendy and laid-back yet effortlessly cool, while Manhattan is characterized by high energy and intense ambition. Do you want to be right in the middle of the hustle and bustle or be a little farther away to be able to enjoy the skyline? Once you decide on the perfect location, neighbourhood-wise, then you can look into hotels and airbnbs in that area! Once you book your accommodations, save it to your Google Maps list. Then, you’ll be one step closer to uncovering the best photoshoot locations.

4. When? Considering the Time of Year

Depending on where you are going, there could be seasonal considerations for your destination! For example, if you are visiting Japan in the springtime during Sakura, you may want to opt for a route that features the beautiful cherry blossoms. 🌸 Or maybe you are travelling somewhere that is beautiful all year round! On the destination page, if you scroll down to the map embed, you’ll see photo examples of all of our routes, and if you click on each one, there are even more examples, including full galleries. Your photographer will be able to share their recommendations for the best time of day to capture good light in any of our photoshoot locations.

5. Finally! Selecting Your Route

Now that we have some of the logistics figured out for your upcoming trip, we can get to the final step! Search your destination on Flytographer and scroll down the page until you come across a map embed. These are all of the photography locations that our community of professional photographers have recommended in their city. Either use the map embedded on the website or our Route Finder. You can look at the locations that you saved on your Google Maps and choose where in the city makes the most sense for your shoot, considering everything above. Do you want to take photos closer to where you are staying? Maybe you want to capture memories in another part of town and explore some trending cafes that you found on TikTok. ☕ Plug an address into our route finder and let us connect the dots to the closest photoshoot locations. All that research fatigue paying off, finally?
