Engagement Photo Locations in NYC

New York City is one of the most magical destinations in the world—it’s a dream city to visit, explore, and capture forever with a Flytographer photo shoot! 📸 If you’re wanting photos of you and your love—especially if you’re proposing or newly engaged and wanting to commemorate this super magical time—we can’t wait to share some of our favourite engagement photo locations in the Big Apple. 💏 Although we’re going to touch on a few, be sure to check out this post for even more fave New York City photo locations. 🗽

1. Central Park

Let’s start with possibly our favourite place in all of New York City for engagement (and every other kind of) photography—Central Park! 📍 Central Park is home to 840 acres of magic in the heart of Manhattan with iconic backdrops, landscapes, and just about anything you could imagine. The park itself is so big with such a variety of locations for photos, it’s easy to get lost (in the very best kind of way). 🗺

Bethesda Terrace and Bethesda Fountain ⛲️ are some of the park’s most famous landmarks and can be found nearly smack-dab in the center of the park itself. Just this tiny part of the park oozes charm and beauty; no matter the season or weather, this area photographs beautifully. 😍 The Mall to the south is a short walk, and Bow Bridge is just slightly to the northeast. The Mall is sans-shopping, more movie-set–tree-tunnel flanked by beautiful trees 🌳 and benches. Bow Bridge is a Victorian-era bridge over the lake featuring the stunning Upper West Side skyline 🏢 and 360-degree views of Central Park’s greenery.

After your engagement session, grab a snack and/or a rowboat at the nearby Central Park Boathouse, and celebrate a successful shoot in front of the camera! 🥂

2. Brooklyn

Brooklyn is home to some of the best views, shops, and cafés in New York City! 👀 DUMBO is one of our favourite places to head if you’re wanting city skyline views 🌆 of Manhattan. Getting to DUMBO is an easy subway ride or picturesque stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge! The areas along the waterfront, including Brooklyn Bridge Park, Squibb Park Bridge, and Pebble Beach, are some of the most picture-perfect options, no matter the time or season. 📝 Time Out Market is a great place to pit-stop for snacks, or to cool off/warm up following your engagement photo session!

3. Top of the Rock

If you’re wanting some sky high, jaw-dropping views high above Rockefeller Center, photos at the Top of the Rock might be perfect for you! 🔝 Top of the Rock has both indoor and outdoor space with awesome views (including multiple decks), providing views from many angles and directions—downtown past the Empire State Building, to high above Central Park, New Jersey to the west and Brooklyn and Queens to the east.

Pro tip: Top of the Rock can get quite busy, particularly at sunset, during great summer weather, and during the holiday season. 👍

Tips for Your NYC Engagement Photos

Whether it’s tall skyscrapers or cobblestone streets, engagement photography in New York City is a one-of-a-kind treat. 🤗 If you have a specific vision in mind, don’t be afraid to communicate with your photographer (more on choosing your photographer below). Consider the time of year, day, and location to help bring your vision to life and set the stage for what to wear and how to make your shoot as successful as possible.

Although we’ve listed a few locations, there are dozens more—from the charm of the West Village, the lofty windows and shops of SoHo, and the cool and unique heights of the High Line—choose a spot that feels right for YOU as a couple! ❣️ A happy you will make for the happiest photos of all.

Getting your nails or even hair and makeup done in NYC is a fun way to make your shoot feel extra special, and there are lots of salons, spas, and resources in the city to make those beauty dreams come true and have you looking and feeling amazing! 💅

Another tip: don’t be afraid to create a mood board (Pinterest is so great!) to collect, narrow, and share ideas 💡 to help inspire you and your loved one as you prepare for your engagement shoot.

Tips for Your NYC Surprise Proposal

Planning a NYC surprise proposal for your love? 💍 Hooray! We simply looooove proposal photography, especially in New York City! Our top tip is to keep in mind timing. The time of year (and time of day) you are wanting to propose will impact the location, lighting, and most important, the city crowds. NYC isn’t known for being tranquil, 🤪 so if you’re not wanting a lot of attention, choosing a time of day and a location that’s more low-key will help you feel cool, calm, collected, and cheerful going into your special moment!

Booking reservations 📆 at a restaurant is a great cover for getting you dressed up and on time for a proposal shoot (brunch places for morning shoots, or dinner locales for shoots later in the day)—this is a great resource for some of our favourite photo-worthy restaurants in NYC! 🙌

Still wanting more? We have tons of great posts on making your proposal a success, 👌 so be sure to check those out on our blog as well.
