What to wear for your Los Angeles engagement

Your engagement photo shoot is not just about capturing special moment. It’s also an opportunity to showcase your personality, style, and love story. From breezy beach vibes to sophisticated city chic, here are a few ideas on what to wear to ensure you look and feel your best for your engagement photos in Los Angeles.👔

Beachy Casual

Embrace the easy-going coastal vibes with a casual beachy ensemble that exudes effortless charm for your engagement photo session. Opt for flowy sundresses, linen shirts, or lightweight tops paired with shorts or trousers. Think soft neutral tones and pale blues to complement the natural seascape behind you. Add in subtle accessories like straw hats, sunglasses, and sandals to complete the look. 👗

The Wedding Look

While we don’t offer wedding photography, there’s no harm in adding a touch of wedding-inspired elegance to your engagement photos. Opting for timeless, sophisticated attire will reflect the joy and excitement of your upcoming nuptials. Think flowy maxi dresses, tailored skirts, or chic jumpsuits, well-fitted suits, dress shirts and chinos in whites, ivories, or pastel hues. 👔

Low-key Coordination

Sometimes couples prefer a more casual and understated look, and if that’s you then opting for low-key coordination is the way to go. Choose complementary colors and styles that harmonize without being too matchy-matchy. This is easy to do and can be in the form of wearing a similar color palette or incorporating shared elements such as denim, stripes, or plaid. 👖

Photo: Allie in Los Angeles for Flytographer. “We arrived at the Palisades Bluffs Park and we grabbed our picnic blanket and snacks and picked a spot (the spot was already pre-determined by me but I acted as if we found it together haha). She was in awe of the views right away and I suggested we take some pictures together. As I was taking selfies with her, Allie our photographer walked by us as we were taking selfies (part of our plan), and I had asked Allie to take a picture of us on my phone. Allie then acted as a friendly tourist and took a couple photos on my phone before suggesting to take some pictures on her camera as her “client was running late”. At this point she gave me the cue by saying “this is perfect!” and I dropped down on one knee and did the proposal I’ve been so excited to do. She said yes and we took pictures all the way into the sunset. It was magical” – Serge (read full proposal story)

FAQ

What is the difference between proposal photos and engagement photos?

A proposal photoshoot is oftentimes a surprise and centres around the moment when the proposer plans to get down on one knee and pop the question. Proposal photos take you back to that special moment! An engagement photoshoot, on the other hand, happens after you are already engaged to capture the excitement and share the news with family and friends.

What should I avoid in engagement photos?

  • Logos & large text: Avoid large logos or t-shirts with images and/or text on them.
  • All white or black: All-white and/or all-black outfits can be difficult to photograph.
  • Bags or backpacks: Try not to carry anything that you wouldn’t want in the photos.
  • Jackets & coats: If bringing one is necessary, make sure you’re ok setting it aside.
  • Full pockets: Keep items in your pockets to a minimum to avoid bulges!

How much does a proposal photographer cost in Los Angeles?

Our photoshoot packages start at $285 USD for a 30-minute session. Easily book a trusted, local Los Angeles engagement photographer. Make the experience last a lifetime with beautiful photos to look back on, relive the memories and share with friends and family when you return home.

Should I get an engagement photographer?

Hiring a professional photographer to capture your engagement adds to the special occasion and love for both you and your partner. Plus, having beautiful photos to look back on together from when you got engaged in Los Angeles will enable you to relive the moment for years to come.
