TLDR

  1. Celebrate the special moments: no matter the occasion, there is always something to celebrate when you’re with the one you love.
  2. Coordinate: we love a well-coordinated moment, and a couple photo shoot is the perfect time to sync up with your love; remember that coordination doesn’t have to mean just with colour!
  3. Cozy up: couple photography becomes something extra special when you get into a zone, thinking less about all that’s going on around you and more about each other.
  4. Explore the city: not all cities and streets are created equal—each can be wildly unique and special, just like you and your relationship. So, take this chance to explore in a way that feels unique and magical to you!
  5. Get the golden glow: drawing attention to gorgeous surroundings and stunning light is a perfect way to add something dramatic and inherently stunning to your images (outside of you two, of course!).
  6. Dance like no one is watching: the honest, unavoidable reactions that come from dancing like no one is watching just can’t be beaten.
  7. Make it a date: approaching your shoot like a date can help with first-time photo shoot nerves and show off your love story in a storybook kind of way.
  8. Snack break: utilizing food stops and local treats during your shoot are not only great bribery but also act as fun props!
  9. Sit back & relax: finding a place to sit back and relax is such a great way to pause and re-center yourselves and can make for great couple photos.
  10. Cheers!: whether it’s raising a glass as you pop bubbly or a final celebratory twirling hug, cheers your partner for the photo memories you captured on your couple photo shoot!

1. Celebrate the special moments

No matter what the occasion, there is always something to celebrate when you’re with the one you love. 🥳 Whether you’re near a birthday, holiday, anniversary, or any other occasion, celebrate! Need some R&R? Work milestone? A fun day-date activity? Take a pause and celebrate any special occasion with a photo shoot. Just being in photos with your partner can ground, comfort, and remind you of why you love each other. 🫶

When it comes to couple pictures, try to zone in on each other and tune out your surroundings—a playful piggyback ride, holding hands, or a hand-in-hand stroll makes for perfect couple portraits no matter what the special moment is that you’re celebrating. 💞

2. Coordinate

We loooove a well-coordinated moment, and a couple photo shoot is the perfect time to sync up with your love! 👯‍♀️ Coordination can come from your clothes, shoes, accessories—even complementary hairstyles! 💁‍♀️ Colour is an obvious way to coordinate, but step back and look at options that could include patterns, hemlines, and more! Get creative if you want to play with cool coordination ideas, or just lean into simplicity when it comes to coordinating. 👍

Photography tip: coordinating with your background is another way to up the ante when it comes to outstanding, cute couple photos. Check out photos on our Routes page 📍 from your chosen route (preferably during the same season and time of day) to get an idea of the lighting, foliage, and even your specific photographer that will help you and your partner totally nail those cute couple photos.

Last point on coordination—this is something we get asked about quite a bit, so we highly recommend visiting our tried and true Style Guide for even more info about what to wear on your photo shoot! 📲

3. Cozy up

Focusing on each other by cozying up is the perfect way to nail romantic, authentic photographs. 🤗 Sitting down, leaning into one another, giving your partner a gentle forehead kiss, and/or sharing loving gazes in front of the camera translates into beautiful photos. Couple photography becomes something special when you get into a zone, thinking less about all that’s going on around you and more about each other. It’s the little details that count, and cozying up is the perfect way to nail those social media-worthy photo poses that have us all swooning. 😍

4. Explore the city

Take advantage of your location! Whether you’re abroad or visiting a city that is close by, exploring is one of our favourite things to do here at Flytographer. 🏙 Background cityscapes, a beachy boardwalk (not just strolling on the beach!), and winding old cobblestone streets all show you and your surroundings and make for such cute couple photos. Don’t forget that not all cities and streets are created equal—each can be wildly unique and special, just like you and your relationship, so explore in a way that feels unique and magical to you.

5. Get the golden glow

It’s no secret that Golden Hour is a favourite time of day for most photographers, as well as for those wanting beautiful, glowing images. 🌆 If you’re slightly worried about being the main attraction in your photos, drawing attention to gorgeous surroundings and stunning light is a perfect way to add something dramatic and inherently stunning to your images. Wide-angle shots and close-ups are both perfect during Golden Hour, and selfies just don’t do it justice—trust us, capturing golden glows and beautiful people is a surefire way to show off photos that can only be captured with the help of a professional.

6. Dance like no one is watching

Time to let loose! This cute couple pose is less pose and more motion—get dancing! 💃 The sillier and more awkward you feel, the more genuine the reaction. 😆 Dancing makes almost every photographer’s pose idea list and for good reason: the honest reactions that come from dancing like no one is watching just can’t be beaten. We like to remind all our customers that we’re taking photos, not video, so no actual skill is necessary, and any lack thereof will not be visible in still shots—although the reactions will be! 😉

7. Make it a date

Remember how we talked earlier about celebrating the special moments? ❤️ Think of this photo session like a date night! Approaching your shoot like a date can help with first-time photo shoot nerves and show off your love story in a storybook kind of way. You can incorporate your shoot into a larger date (think food, movie, dancing + photos!), or treat your shoot like a date itself. Court your partner! Romantic gestures, flirty glances—date on your own terms; you just have a +1 with a camera! 😜

8. Snack break

This pro tip works amazingly well for family photos and for couple photos: snacks! 🍿 Utilizing food stops and local treats during your shoot are not only great bribery but also act as fun props! Hot dogs 🌭 in New York, a croissant 🥐 and coffee ☕️ at a cute Parisian café—snacks can somehow bring on giggles and charm all at the same time! This fun photography idea also serves as a reminder that the photo shoot experience should be fun.

9. Sit back & relax

Finding a place to sit back and relax is such a great way to pause and re-center yourselves and can make for great couple photos. Benches, ledges, rocks, and other surfaces 🪑 are often handy and allow for a bit of rest; but don’t forget that lying down, lounging, or spreading out on the grass, sand, or a blanket can allow for playful wrestling, silly banter, or just relaxation while your photographer captures the beauty of your love and surroundings. Sitting back and relaxing is a fun thing to save for the end of your shoot when you aren’t as worried about dirt or wrinkles— you can just chill—and celebrate the end of your fun shoot! 😎
