One of the best parts of vacationing? Eating and drinking your way around your destination, of course. Laura and Geoff, self-described foodies, ate their way around Maui for their first anniversary and give us the rundown of Maui’s best kept secret eats.

“My husband, Geoff, and I wanted to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary with a trip to Maui. It was my first time there and I was very excited to explore the island.

“We basically drove around the entire island during our trip. We drove the west side of the island one day, stopping at a fruit stand to buy fresh fruit, at a coffee shop for local coffee, and, of course, for fish tacos and a Mai Tai. The next day, we drove the road to Hana and it was beautiful! We completed two hikes through bamboo forests to see a few waterfalls. We drove all the way through Hana instead of turning back around. It was so cool to go from a tropical forest to a farming/ranch area with cows crossing the road in front of us.

“My husband and I are big foodies, so we went on adventures to try out lots of restaurants, food trucks and hole-in-the-wall places. I don’t think we had one bad meal while we were here! A must is Mama’s Fish House in Paia at sunset. They book months out, so make the reservation when you book your trip! Show up early before your reservation and enjoy a Mai Tai at the bar.  You can also request a seat in the very front so you can enjoy the sunset up close.

Acevedo’s Hawaicano Cafe is close to the airport and is a hole in the wall, but has some of the best Mexican food ever! It’s half Mexican food, half Hawaiian food. The chicken ranchero is amazing! Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice has the best shaved ice on the island! Get the macadamia nut ice cream at the bottom and a snow cap on top!

“One of our favourite memories from the trip though was having our photos taken by our Flytographer Marie! We loved walking along the beach at sunset and being able to have our photos taken in such a beautiful place. Not only does Marie take beautiful photos, she had awesome food recommendations in Maui! Our photos are beautiful and I love them all! It was our favourite souvenir ever!” – Laura
