1. Museum Island

Museum Island is located in the heart of Berlin, between the Spree Canal and River Spree. This UNESCO World Heritage site is the ideal destination for those who love immersing themselves in the history and culture of a city! It also happens to be one of the most beautiful places in Berlin. It is home to five world-renowned museums, each of which houses significant archaeological and art collections. 🖼️

Museum Island is home to notable buildings, such as the Berlin Cathedral, an impressive 1800s church. Neoclassical and baroque-style architecture creates a majestic backdrop for photos. Take some time to snap photos of the impressive architecture with the Spree River in the background—a seriously Instagrammable shot!

💡 Travel tip: For sweeping views of Berlin, head to the top of the Berliner Fernsehturm tower, where you’ll have a 360-degree view of the city from the observation deck. Time your visit with the sunset for an unforgettable Berlin memory. 🌇

2. Brandenburg Gate

The Brandenburg Gate is one of Berlin’s most historic landmarks and offers a fascinating insight into Berlin’s history. It is a potent symbol of reunified Germany after the division of Berlin’s East and West sides during the Cold War.

The neoclassical architecture is stunning. Twelve Doric columns stretch toward the sky, and a golden goddess statue sits atop the gate. It is a sight to behold and one of many beautiful places to take photos in Berlin!

Though the Brandenburg Gate is impressive, its location adds to its appeal. Pariser Platz, Berlin’s most beautiful square, is located directly beside the gate. The buildings surrounding the square were reconstructed in the 1990s after German reunification and are now home to embassies, townhouses, and even an elegant five-star hotel. ⭐

3. The Reichstag

The Reichstag building is one of Berlin’s most significant historical buildings. It is a globally recognized symbol of democracy and one of Berlin’s most visited landmarks. Currently, it is home to the German parliament.

Aside from its vast history, the Reichstag is an architectural masterpiece that will leave you in awe. 😍 Combining neoclassical style with modern elements, the building is unlike any other. During the Reichstag’s restoration, architect Sir Norman Foster wanted to combine its classic architecture with a fresh, modern look. And so, the Reichstag dome was born—a large, glass dome that sits atop the centre of the building. The glass Reichstag dome is a shining example of eco-architecture, as its shape provides natural light and ventilation.

For an excellent view of the Reichstag dome and panoramic Berlin views, climb to the rooftop terrace. Here, you can enjoy sweeping views of the Reichstag grounds and Berlin’s skyline while up close and personal with the glass dome. One of the best photo spots in the entire city! 📸

East Side Gallery sits alongside the banks of the River Spree in the Friedrichshain district. At 1.3 kilometres long, the East Side Gallery is the longest open-air gallery in the world. This is where the Berlin Wall once stood, and pieces of it remain to this day. Visit the gallery to discover the history of the Berlin Wall while taking in amazing street art.

When the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, over 100 artists from countries around the world began painting the wall to commemorate the occasion. 🎨 Many of the works are commentaries on the changing political status and provide insight into the time. It opened as a gallery in 1990 and received protected status as a memorial shortly after.

9. Markethalle IX

For those who love exploring culture through markets, Markethalle IX is a must-see in Berlin! Located in quirky Kreuzberg, the historic market reopened in 2021, almost 120 years after its initial opening.

Markethalle IX is a traditional weekly market with many fresh goods — seafood, fruits and vegetables, baked goods, meats, craft beer, and more. 🍻 Every few months, the market becomes a Naschmarkt—snack market—and that’s where it shines! Endless rows of stalls sell treats like cakes, cookies, honey, and chocolates. Artisans craft these treats using ‘slow food’ principles, meaning the treats are locally made, environmentally conscious, and absolutely delicious. 😋

Markethalle IX also sees larger culinary events such as the Berlin Coffee Festival and Wurst & Bier Festival. It is also transformed into a classic German Christmas market during Advent. 🎄 Whenever you visit Berlin, check out Markethalle IX’s calendar to see what you’ll find — but rest assured, it’s well worth a visit no matter what time of year!

The Humboldt Forum extends over 30,000 square meters with two large city squares, the Spree balcony, a large riverside terrace, and the Passage—a wide column-lined path that goes through the building itself.

Between the sprawling grounds, the intricate architecture, and the sheer size, the Humboldt Forum is one of the most fantastic places to take photos in Berlin!
