TLDR

  1. The High Line – Once an elevated train line, the High Line was reinvented and is now a popular public outdoor space and walking path in Manhattan.
  2. Greenwich Village & the West VillageRead: the most iconically Taylor neighbourhood in the whole city! You cannot talk about Taylor in NYC and not talk about The Village.
  3. Bus Stop Cafe – This spot from “the 1” isn’t an actual bus stop; it’s a charming diner!
  4. Cornelia Street – You can’t come to NYC with Taylor in mind and not get this song stuck in your head (we’ve tried).
  5. Electric Lady Studio – Not all of us have the luxury of recording here, but we can walk the same (public) path as rock and pop stars like our girl Taylor.
  6. SoHo – No stroll with your girls would be complete without enjoying the cobblestoned shopping delight that is SoHo.
  7. FAQ – A few of the juiciest Taylor q’s, including another one of her favorite NYC hobbies: yummy food faves.

1. The High Line

The High Line used to be an elevated train line 🛤 – now it’s Taylor-lyric inspo. Once scheduled for demolition, the High Line has been reimagined, reinvented, and is now a popular public park. The High Line itself is beautiful— situated on the west side of Manhattan and stretching nearly 1.5 miles (2.4 km), the High Line highlights art, nature, and of course, the beauty of New York City. Referenced in “Cardigan” from Taylor’s Folklore album, the High Line is an awesome spot for photos in the city. 🤩 We love the vantage points, the photo ops, and the opportunities to sit, relax, take in pops of nature, and get in some great people-watching. There are multiple entrance points to the High Line, but the southernmost is in the Meatpacking District, just next to the Whitney Museum of Art. This area isn’t far from the next stop on our NYC Era tour: The Village! ❣️

2. Greenwich Village & the West Village

Greenwich Village (also known as The Village) is slightly larger than the West Village in Manhattan. This area is located between 14th Street and Houston (pro tip: it’s pronounced HOW-sten) and includes the iconic Washington Square Park and New York University (NYU). 📍 Wildly charming, this neighbourhood is full of fabulous food, bars, shops, and history (particularly LGBTQ history). 🏳️🌈 Some of Taylor’s lyric references are in The Village, and we’re going to focus on a few of those for our photo tour – Cornelia Street here we come! 🤩

3. Bus Stop Cafe

Rumor has it that Taylor’s bus stop line from “the 1” (Folklore) isn’t referring to your standard NYC bus stop 🚍 but is instead the Bus Stop Cafe (597 Hudson Street), an old-school cafe and diner. 🥞 Photos on this cute corner are not only a nod to a great song, but also to a quintessential Village pitstop. 😍

4. Electric Lady Studios

Just blocks from the iconic Washington Square Park arch is Electric Lady Studios – the studio where Taylor recorded Lover in addition to a host of other albums (including Taylor’s re-recorded albums). 🎤 Electric Lady Studios is closed to the public, but this spot (which was commissioned by Jimi Hendrix!) has heard the voices of a host of other stars in addition to our beloved Taylor. 🎹

5. Cornelia Street

The four-bedroom, 5,500-square-foot carriage house Taylor rented at 23 Cornelia Street NYC might ring a little bell – Taylor named a song after this street on her Lover album! 💘 At the time, Taylor was dating Joe Alwyn and rented the pad from executive David Aldea (formerly of Soho House). The unassuming-but-totally-cute-in-a-rustic-NYC-kind-of-way townhouse is popular for fan photo ops, just like the iconic “Cornelia Street” street signs. If the $18 million price tag seems a bit high (NYC real estate is no joke…but, I mean, it does have an indoor swimming pool AND a private rooftop terrace 💰), you’re always welcome to settle for some photos out front instead. She may never walk Cornelia Street again ⛔️, but you sure can!

6. SoHo

Once we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the charm of Cornelia Street NYC and The Village, we’ll make our way downtown, through the cobblestoned, upscale fashion and shopping district of SoHo! 🛍 Remember Taylor’s 2008 EP called Live from SoHo? – this gives us an excuse to embrace our inner It Girls and capture incredible iconic photos in one of our favourite NYC destinations. 🤳

7. FAQ

Who is ‘Cornelia Street’ about?

  • Taylor’s time living at her rental on Cornelia Street NYC coincides with her time dating Joe Alwyn. The song “Cornelia Street” talks about how hard it would be to ever walk the street again following a potential heartbreak. BUMMER!

What are some of Taylor’s favourite NYC eats? 😋

  • We love dining in NYC (we talk about our favourite Instagrammable restaurants here), and if you’re looking for yummy eats where you can feel as chic as Taylor herself, check these spots out post-photo shoot for a sweet treat:
    • Via Carota – This Italian gem in the West Village doesn’t offer reservations but the food is spectacular, so be prepared to wait — it’s a NYC fave for more than Taylor fans.
    • The Waverly Inn – If you want something high-end, the Waverly Inn features classic American fare on one of New York City’s most beautiful streets.
    • Lafayette Grand Café & Bakery – A favourite brunch spot with delectable pastries and ample natural light, this is a great go-to for brunch with your girls.
