Travel Story

We had some extra time to spend in Europe after my Brother in-law’s wedding so we decided to poke around and see what city would be of interest to us. While planning the trip we initially had the idea of going to Italy to hike in Cinque Terre.... that was until I found out we were expecting our first baby! Needless to say, we had to change our plans from an anniversary trip to a Babymoon! While I could have done the hiking in Italy, my husband wanted to make sure I was safe so we decided on Lisbon since it was close to our previous destination and it was a city that was so rich with culture!

Travel Tips

Lisbon is a very hilly city, thankfully we packed comfy shoes so climbing up those hills was a breeze. (Although to be completely honest, I did have to stop from time to time to catch my breath! Great cardio nonetheless!) The must sees would definitely be São Jorge Castle. You get a stunning panorama of the river and the city. The views are just breathtaking! There is even an archeological site from when the Moors inhabited Portugal! Being a history buff, I was all about that. If you’re a soccer fan like my husband, I would recommend heading to Benfica’s stadium. As a non-soccer obsessed person, it was still really cool to see such a large stadium! They even have 3 real eagles you can take pictures with! As far as meals go, Claudia, our flytographer recommended some great spots! One of them was a breakfast place called Nicolau which was steps from our hotel. We had the most amazing halloumi toast and everything was healthy and organic! Big plus for me! I’d also recommend heading to Time Out market where you can see all of the amazing local cuisines that Lisbon has to offer. We also had the most amazing pastéis de Belém near Belém tower. The bakery has been making them since 1837 and there is always a line but I assure you, it’s so worth it! We had a lot of favorite dinner spots too, but we were most blown away by Ramiro. You just select the fish or shellfish you want and they bring it out to you. Seasoning is not necessary and nor is butter! The fish was so flavorful on its own! The best part was my husband who is not a dessert fan got to finish his meal off with a steak sandwich.
