Often called the most beautiful and most preserved medieval city in Italy, Siena is a showstopper from every angle. The iconic fan-shaped Piazza del Campo, soaring Gothic cathedral, and honey-coloured stone streets that glow at golden hour make this a dream location for any kind of shoot. The Piazza del Campo itself is one of the great public spaces in the world, its distinctive shell shape sloping gently down to the Gothic Palazzo Pubblico and its soaring Torre del Mangia, which you can climb for panoramic views. The Duomo di Siena is another jaw-dropper, its black and white striped marble facade giving way to an interior filled with extraordinary art at every turn. Siena is best explored on foot in the early morning or evening light, when the coloured stone takes on a warm glow and the day-trippers have moved on.
