John's Travel Tips for Marrakesh

What are the best places to eat and drink in Marrakesh?

Cafe des Epices is a really cool cafe in the heart of the medina with a wonderful rooftop terrace with views of the city and the square below. The food is really nice and fresh, too. Try one of their "mocktails" which are really more like smoothies.

What are the best things to do in Marrakesh?

Shopping in the souks and in boutique shops around the medina. Sensory overload!

What is your best travel tip for Marrakesh?

Pack an empty suitcase and do not pack too many clothes from home. If you are like me, you will end up buying really cool clothes in Marrakech and regret having brought too many things from home. I easily filled up an extra suitcase to take souvenirs home.

In Marrakesh, let yourself get lost (within reason) in the souks and soak in the local atmosphere. I also recommend taking a food tasting tour as fun way to really see what the city has to offer!

Allyson's Travel Tips for Marrakesh

What is your best overall travel tip for Marrakesh?

The best way to get the full Marrakesh experience is just to get lost wandering through the souks in the old medina. Every alleyway has something different to offer - different goods and picture-worthy backdrops. For a break, find a rooftop terrace (we liked Nomad) and enjoy a glass of delicious orange juice or mint tea!

Kathleen's Travel Tips for Marrakesh

What is your best overall travel tip for Marrakesh?

Marrakesh and all of Morocco are one of the most picturesque places we have ever visited. The country is colourful and absolutely vibrant. An element of Marrakesh not captured in photos is the hustle and bustle of the souks and the medina. You will be hustled, but that is half the fun! Get your bearings and be comfortable walking around the souks and the market square. Be prepared to haggle as this goes along with the local culture, and is expected by the local merchants. Try to learn a few words in Arabic and engage in conversations with the locals. Dress appropriately out of respect for the local customs. Indulge in their scrumptious tagine and couscous, and have fresh squeezed OJ every chance you get! We spent almost two weeks travelling through the Sahara and Southern Morocco, and the diversity of this country's landscape was absolutely mind blowing. We explored busy cities; drove through the Atlas mountains; slept in the desert; walked in and around the kasbahs, the gorge and valleys; surfed in the coast; and visited some world-famous mosques. The sights, the smells, the sounds and the tastes here --- it is a kaleidoscope of humanity. Put Morocco on your list!
