What is your love story?

We met on Hinge in November 2024 and had our first in-person date on Black Friday. It was supposed to be a quick meet-up for drinks and appetizers, but after getting kicked out of the restaurant at closing, we stayed in her car just talking—until 1 a.m. The connection was immediate. I knew right away I wanted to see her again, so I got to work planning our second date. Since that night, we’ve been inseparable. We’ve traveled together to Washington, DC, Huntington Beach, Panama, and most recently, Milan, Italy—where I proposed. Every step of this journey has confirmed what I felt on day one: I can’t imagine spending a minute without her. We’re getting married in May 2026, and I couldn’t be more excited to build a life together.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

We chose Lake Como for our proposal because of its undeniable romance and breathtaking scenery. We had dreamed of something intimate, magical, and unforgettable—and Lake Como delivered. The weather was perfect, the views were surreal, and the air felt full of possibility.

What is your proposal story?

On the big day, we made our way to Villa Monastero in Varenna. I had a speech prepared, and as we walked through the gardens and down to the lakefront, I started with, “Well, the reason why I brought you here…” Tamara immediately began tearing up with joy. I barely made it to the end of my words before getting choked up myself. It was emotional, raw, and everything I hoped it would be.

Advice for anyone proposing in Lake Como: If you’re hoping to take photos inside a villa or private property, book well in advance. Coordinate directly with the villa and clearly communicate your request. The locals in Varenna were incredibly kind and welcoming, but having your plans in order makes all the difference.

What is your love story?

I knew very early on that Ella was going to be my forever person. We have shared so many memories with our two dogs and now our beautiful daughter. She has been by my side for 5 years now and I am a better man for having her in my life.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

We were travelling to Italy for a family wedding and it just seemed like the right time to do it. Bellagio is one of the most beautiful places on earth and it was meant to be.

What is your proposal story?

We got a ferry from Como to Bellagio and had a beautiful lunch by the lake. I had told Ella that we were getting "Family Photos" so that we would dress up for the occasion. She was a little suspicious that something was going to happen however after her searching for a ring and not being able to find it, that thought left. We then went to Villa Melzi and met the photographer who led us to a breathtaking chapel. Once the proposal was over we walked around the gardens and had photos throughout which we will cherish for the rest of our lives. We then had dinner in Bellagio and had a 1.5 hour private boat tour back to Como at sunset which was magical itself.

Everywhere along the lake is stunning, I would say do some research into different towns and you will find the one that is right for you. We used Frankys on the Lake for our boat tour home and Joey was absolutely amazing.

From the beginning, I was drawn to how sweet and thoughtful he is—he has the most genuine heart. Over time, I realized he’s also such a strong and steady leader in our relationship. He supports me, challenges me, and always shows up with love and intention. It didn’t take long for me to know he was the one—I just felt safe, seen, and completely myself with him.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

The very first night we met—over two years ago and before we started dating—we were talking with friends about dream destination vacations, and we both said Italy, specifically Lake Como. Fast forward to now, we planned a big trip through Italy, starting in Rome and making our way north with stops in Florence, Cinque Terre, and finally Lake Como. We ended our trip there, and to my complete surprise, he proposed! It was so special because Lake Como was the place we both talked about visiting on the night we met—long before we knew what our future would hold.

What is your proposal story?

It was truly the most magical day. We had just arrived in Bellagio the night before and this was the final stop on our Italy trip. We planned a photo shoot as a late birthday/anniversary gift and to capture the beauty of the area (or so I thought!). I had no idea that he had secretly reached out to our photographer ahead of time to plan a proposal. During the shoot, as we were taking photos by the lake with the mountains in the background, he suddenly got down on one knee. I was completely shocked—it was such a beautiful surprise! I immediately said yes, and our photographer captured the entire moment perfectly. It felt like a dream, especially knowing it happened in the place we both said we wanted to visit the very first night we met.

If you’re thinking about proposing in Lake Como, I’d say go for it! The scenery is absolutely stunning and creates the perfect romantic backdrop. My biggest advice is to plan ahead—work with a local photographer who understands the area and can help you capture the moment naturally. Also, keep the surprise element if you can; it makes the experience unforgettable. And most importantly, just focus on the love and the moment itself—Lake Como will take care of the rest!

I knew after we hung out for the first time that she was special.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

I saw how peaceful and beautiful it was and knew it would always be a special place for us.

What is your proposal story?

This was a surprise proposal. Irina (our photographer) was “taking pictures of the lake with her camera” whenever we walked up. The plan was for my girlfriend and I to go take a selfie in the proposal spot and then have “someone take a picture of us”. That’s what we did and I had Irina take a photo of us on my phone. She took a few pictures and then offered to take a picture of us on her nice camera. She said she would email them all to us! We happily agreed. She started taking pictures with us and then said “this is perfect”. That was my cue to get down on a knee. It went perfect from there.

It is very humid and warm during July so dress for that. The terrain is a little bit rocky around Villa Melzi. It’s a beautiful spot and we are so glad we did it here. Be aware of the weather and the possibility of rain.

Make sure to get a proposal ring box when you buy your ring. It is a lot smaller than the original one and easy to blend in with your wallet for your pocket. Arrive to the Villa early and take a casual walk around to scope out the scenes and come prepared with some engagement poses to avoid putting too much pressure on the photographer! Practice kneeling down and reading your speech out loud well in advance to avoid freezing in the moment. Chances are people will be around and will add to the pressure and may throw some curveballs in your special moment! LASTLY … HAVE FUN AND ENJOY THIS MOMENT !! :)

Since the beggining of our relationship we dreamed of a vacation to Italy, especially the beautiful Lake Como. Villa del Balbianello is our favorite Villa in Lake Como.

She was surprised! We were nervous about the weather since it had been raining all morning, however the rain stopped and the proposal went perfectly. I could have not asked for a better photoshoot and proposal.

If you are planning to propose on a Villa, make sure to contact them way in advance. All Villas get booked months in advance. I booked Villa del Balbianello 4 months before the proposal. 100% recommend proposing in Lake Como, it is the most romantic.

What is your love story?

We started as childhood friends and we started dating at the beginning of high school. We went to college together at UW-Madison and following graduation, we then moved to Chicago. We are each other’s best friend and couldn’t imagine growing up and living the rest of our life with anyone else.

I wanted to propose in the most romantic, beautiful place and Lake Como absolutely exceeded our expectations.

What is your proposal story?

We had the most perfect day exploring Varenna and Bellagio. We returned to Varenna for cafe and drinks at the Villa Monastero Gardens and sat at a bench to watch the sunset over the lake. I handed her a few handwritten letters so we could reminisce on the last 9 years of our relationship. We then walked to the beach (that I had planned to propose and meet the photographer at) and handed her the last letter that ended with “Will you marry me?” and got down on one knee!

Best tip for proposing in Lake Como

Have someone local to the area (like a Flytographer) scout out possible locations because it is hard to predict how crowded areas will get. Try not to pack your day with visiting too many cities on Lake Como—stick with 1-3 because lines for the ferries can get long and there is so much to see in every city so take your time walking around, see some gardens and take in the views. Either propose in the morning or around sunset because the crowds get larger near the middle of the day.
