I've grown up with hiking, camping, and mountains as a driving force behind my lifestyle and I always told myself I would propose on to of a mountain with a beautiful view. Kauai's Waimea Canyon was the perfect spot and the lookout point at the top did not disappoint

Best tip for proposing in Kauai

The entire island is absolutely gorgeous! With it being sparsely developed, certain parts of the island do not have cell phone reception which can at times make coordinating a surprise photoshoot difficult. Just do your research ahead of time and have a good plan!

What is your love story?

We are the product of technology dating by electronically meeting on Tinder. While we chatted on Tinder we actually did not meet until two months later when Chad called me on a whim and asked to get dinner in an hour. I surprisingly took the risk and said yes. It was the last first date for us both and our love quickly blossomed. We dated long distance for two years and chose to move across the country to Seattle, WA. We leaned on each other for support during the move to a new city and new jobs. After three years of dating and it felt like the right time to make a new commitment to our love for each other.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

We were already planning to visit Kauai for our annual vacation. I always knew I wanted to have a surprise proposal and why not in a beautiful location such as Hawaii. The exact location was recommended by the photographer based on my wants and suggestions to make it perfect.

What is your proposal story?

The proposal was more than I imagined. It went off without a hitch even with a little rain. We are more outdoors people and love a good adventure which is why I wanted the proposal to be on a remote hike. The hike location that the photographer recommended was beautiful and completely private. The hike was a little more difficult than expected due to the rain and mud but it made it even more special. I really had to coach Chad through it. Once we arrived at the meadow, Rachel perfectly pulled off the strategy of a friendly photographer and Chad completely fell for it. Chad was shocked by the proposal and was not expecting it on a fun and beautiful hike. The only thing I wish I would have thought about was recording the whole event.
