Karl & Madeline's Proposal Story in Jackson Hole

How did you meet?

Friends/Family

What is your love story?

I've been best buddies with Madeline's cousin, Joe, since high school. Joe and I took my boat out for the 4th of July one year and Madeline tagged along. We've been hand in hand ever since. We started spending time together every chance we could get. At the time, I was helping a family friend build a large retaining wall for one of his clients. Maddie was in college (about to start her final year) and working a physically demanding construction job during the summer. Yet, as soon as she was done at work, she would come help me do more physical labor (she's pretty badass). From there, it was pretty typical dating. I'd go visit her while in college and we'd spend summer doing typical midwest outdoorsy things and working out together. I don't think there was a moment where it all of the sudden felt like she was "the one," she was the one from the start.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

My family and I go out to Big Sky every other year and Maddie has been with us for two of those trips now. Those trips sparked an interest in exploring other parts of the western states and Maddie really took a liking to visiting Jackson Hole. I decided to go back to school for a 6 month pipe welding program in Gillette, Wyoming. Towards the end of my program, we started planning a mini vacation to Jackson Hole upon me finishing school. I figured it was the perfect opportunity for a nice proposal, so I started making my own plans.

What is your proposal story?

We knew we were going to get married at some point or another, there was no surprise there. But, I knew we both wanted the proposal/engagement to be special. So, I decided to tell Madeline that there were going to be surprises sprinkled throughout our mini vacation. I had an outfit picked out and told her to match it on the big day. The proposal itself wasn't a huge surprise, but she had no idea that I had a custom ring box made and booked us a professional photographer (Madison did a fantastic job).

Best tip for proposing in Jackson Hole

You're at the mercy of the weather in Jackson, dress in layers, tuck your layers. There's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes.

Eric & Helena's Proposal Story in Jackson Hole

How did you meet?

School

What is your love story?

Helena and I were lab partners in university. We started flirting while we were doing labs, and our relationship blossomed pretty quickly from there. I knew Helena was the one when we went on a 3 day trip to Minnesota's North Shore for our anniversary. That weekend saw some nasty rainy weather that had us cancel almost all our plans, but just the two of us sitting in a cabin watching the rain, playing cribbage, and talking was one of the most enjoyable weekends of my life.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

We love exploring national parks together, so I chose Grand Teton because we'd been wanting to see the area anyways, and it offers stunning backdrops for photos.

What is your proposal story?

Day of, we drove up to Jackson Hole out of Boulder. We were running a bit late, and I'd told Helena we had a dinner reservation an hour north east of where we were staying. We got to our Airbnb and had 15 minutes to get dressed for a "fancy dinner", and I drove so Helena could do her hair and makeup in the car. When we got to the photo shoot area, I pulled over and offered a confused Helena an excuse of "our dinner reservation is actually 15 minutes later, let's check out this view". We got in position and our photographer captures the moment from a nearby bridge she was hiding at.

Best tip for proposing in Jackson Hole

While it worked out for us, I think scheduling a morning photo shoot would be a safer bet. The morning is less likely to have storms, and can have clearer viewing conditions in wildfire season.

Logan & Erin's Proposal Story in Jackson Hole

How did you meet?

Friends/Family

What is your love story?

Erin and I were set up by a mutual friend. Erin needed a date to a sorority formal at our school (University of Missouri) and I had made mention to the mutual friend that I would gladly take her. Which was all fine and dandy until I was blindsided by a due date on a paper for class. So needless to say, I ditched her. But, beings that my parents raised a gentlemen I promptly offered to take her to supper. I remember that night like it was yesterday, she was the women of my dreams and I thought to myself "where have you been all my life?" cause I knew she was the one for me. That night was over three years ago. Since then we have stood the tests of nursing school, college graduation and now the rigors of transitioning into adulthood. I cannot wait to see what life has in store for us but life is always easier with your best friend by your side. And that is what I have in Erin, she is my best friend, the love of my life and now my fiancé.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

I have visited Jackson in the winter a few times before. There is just something so captivating about this place. Everywhere you look its just breathtaking. When thinking of proposal locations it did not take long for me to decide this was the place.

What is your proposal story?

My photographer Madison and I had originally planned on meeting the evening of 1/23/2022 but a then that plan was changed. Beings that we are from Missouri Erin and I are huge Kansas City Chiefs fans. With Erin being even bigger a fan than myself. So when the game time of the Chiefs divisional championship game was announced for 1/23/2022 at 4:30 PM I about died. So I called Madison and explained the situation which she so nicely accommodated a change to the morning of the 23rd. Crisis averted. I then had to convince Erin to wake up in the early hours of the day to catch the sunrise. Which took some doing! We left the cabin and headed for the predetermined location taking in the breathtaking beauty of the awaking Teton valley on the way. We got to the location and set out into the bitter cold of the Wyoming winter morning. We crested the hill and the sunrise on the Tetons was just beyond beautiful. Madison was there awaiting our arrival and the charades of surprises began! When I got down on one knee Erin could not have been more surprised. The moment was priceless and Madisons pictures captured it perfectly! Best day of my life!

Best tip for proposing in Jackson Hole

Four wheel drive! Some of the prettiest places are off the beaten path. So plan accordingly and ensure you rent a car or have a car with 4x4 capabilities. I had no issues that warranted 4x4 but, I was glad I had the option of 4x4 in case.

You know they are the one when they make even the hard times easy.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

Jackson Hole has always been a family destination for Carley and her family. It also helps that it is the most beautiful place on earth.

What is your proposal story?

We got engaged at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson. Carley's grandfather was a big supporter of the museum in Jackson, Carley graduated with a degree in art from Mizzou, and our first date was to the Nelson Atkins Art Museum in Kansas City. So proposing to Carley at the musuem in Jackson was a no brainer.

Dillon & Shania's Proposal Story in Jackson Hole

How did you meet?

Friends/Family

What is your love story?

I knew she was ‘the one’ for a little while as we had the same dreams, ambitions, and interests. I would say it was a culmination of joy, experiences, and love that defined her as ‘the one’ for me. It wasn’t until 5 years in that I finally decided to pop the question as everything in life for us was going perfectly.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

We had visited Grand Teton National Park the summer prior and absolutely loved the stunning views and wildlife. Both of us love to enjoy camping, the outdoors, and western lifestyle so the Moulton barn seemed like the perfect place to propose.

What is your proposal story?

On our big day, I planned for us to snowshoe out to the Moulton Barns at Sunrise. I would be meeting our flytographer, Madison out there for a surprise engagement. When we woke up that morning it was -15 degrees! So it took a little convincing to get my then girlfriend to want to go. Little did she know what was in store. On the way out there the skies were crystal clear as the moon set behind the Tetons. We arrived and snowshoed in to the barns as the skies got lighter. At the barns, our flytographer was there and asked if we would like a picture taken with my phone. We both got in place to take a picture and that is when Madison gave me the cue to propose. I got down on one knee, and she said yes! The background was perfect as the sun rose on the tips of the Tetons and a foggy barn sat behind us. Madison captured everything we wanted and then more as we took some photos after the proposal. It was a day we will never forget and we have beautiful photos to capture the moment.

Best tip for proposing in Jackson Hole

If looking at proposing in Jackson Hole, make sure to keep in mind routes and weather as some areas will be closed to access in vehicle. The winter for us was a cold one but it worked out perfect as there was not any other people in the background as it is a slower tourist time.

Andrew & Kristina's Proposal Story in Jackson Hole

How did you meet?

Duke's. Bar in Soulard, St. Louis.

What is your love story?

She was in town from Atlanta visiting her parents in St. Louis. I just happened to be living there. We met, exchanged numbers, and couldn't stop talking to each other for over a year. After getting sick of the long distance and bi-monthly traveling, we decided to make a move that made sense for both of us and came to Chicago. That made it pretty clear to both of us that we were serious.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

We love to ski and snowboard. Jackson Hole was the perfect location to get stunning mountain views, get engaged, and celebrate with good food, drinks, and skiing afterwards.

What is your proposal story?

Madison made great suggestions on potential proposal locations.

Kyle's Proposal Story in Jackson Hole

What is your love story?

We met through mutual friends at a lake trip. At first, I was a little disappointed because I assumed there was no way a girl as beautiful as Victoria would ever give a guy like me a chance. Luckily, we hit it off. Two weeks after we met, we went on a 3- day backpacking trip on the Four Pass Loop by the Maroon Bells in Aspen. On that trip, I fell head over heels for her. I knew then I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

I grew up going to Jackson Hole every summer or so for hiking, camping, and fishing. Since we fell in love in the mountains, I wanted to ask her to marry me in the mountains. It is the perfect balance of luxury and adventure!

What is your proposal story?

I told Victoria we were going to a nicer restaurant to celebrate our 3-year dating anniversary; she looked stunning! We went o grab cocktails out at Dornan's, a place right outside of the mountains with spectacular views. From there, I said we were a little early for our dinner reservations, but we could drive down the road a ways to look for a good moose-sighting area. We pulled in to Schwabacher's Landing around 7:15PM (right on schedule with our photographer's recommendation to have the best lighting). We kind of wandered up on top of the hill, where we started to take selfies. A nice gentleman (Peter, our photographer) was taking nature pictures nearby and offered to take a picture on my cellphone and his camera. Right when he said "that looks perfect", I got down on one knee and asked Victoria to spend the rest of our lives together and be my wife. I was so filled with adrenaline, I'm not even sure she said yes!
