We suggest not spending a full week in Turkey, travel and explore other cities if possible. And avoid winter season, it was freezing when we visited. Also, I don't recommend to use Airbnb for accommodation.

Put biggest tip is to get an “Istanbul Kart”. This is a card that you load up with money and you scan it every time you get in the team and or ferry! The card works for BOTH! Our hotel was nice enough to let us use theirs. All we had to do was go to a machine near the train and load it up with money and then we were able to get around easily. You need cash to be able to load it up but 20 Turkish Lira should be enough for several rides if you are solo and about 4 rides for 2 people.
