Meet Gregory Owain in Tokyo

New to Flytographer!

Hailing from the sunny shores of the UK I am currently pursuing my dreams as a photographer in the amazing city of Tokyo. I love mixing in with both the locals and the travelers as I learn more about Japan and the wider world. I like to keep my photography fun and vibrant and I really enjoy working with clients beforehand to make sure we pick the right location based on their vision of Japan and to ensure they have the absolute best experience. Now specializing in portrait and event work, I do try and bring the dynamism from the first phase of my career photographing for car magazines.

Languages Spoken: English, some German and a little bit of Japanese
  • heart icon
Favourite Place to Shoot: Shinjuku Gyoen because the gardens look radically different between seasons, and the cherry blossom in Spring is simply spectacular.

Three Things

  1. Before I was a photographer I was stuck in the 9-5 grind, longing for a career that got me outside and working with people. Fortunately the pandemic actually gave me a chance to pivot as I got laid off, and I decided to follow my dreams, never looking back. Always look for the silver lining.
  2. My proudest moment in my career was definitely photographing the Emperor of Japan during his state visit to the UK in 2024.
  3. Despite having a bad reputation, snakes are, in fact, my favourite animal. I just find them so fascinating.
