Business meets Pleasure in Portland

When business brought me to the Portland area this summer, I knew I needed to take full advantage of all the sights in the area, from the city to the coast and everywhere in between. As my little family resides in Georgia, which looks very different from Oregon, I wanted to capture our time by planning a shoot with the Pacific Northwest as the background. Whitney for Flytographer exceeded my expectations and I consider my images from our shoot to be my favorite souvenirs from our trip! My favorite memory was exploring the culinary scene of the Portland area, from Salt & Straw ice cream, to the Tillamook Creamery, to the vineyards of the Willamette Valley. Even though my son was a couple months shy of three years old when we traveled to Oregon, he loved visiting the dairy and eating endless amounts of cheese; the wineries provided open space for him to run and play, while my husband and I enjoyed some pinot.
Travel Tips
Our favorite restaurants were Pok Pok (or Pok Pok Wing) and Salty's. We loved the hole in the wall-feel of Pok Pok but the James Beard award-winning fare! Salty's for Sunday brunch was amazing; we dined on everything from crab to oysters to grits to creme brulee. Being that my husband and I met in and graduated from culinary school, we simply love unique and delicious places, and Pok Pok and Salty's offered two different options that did not disappoint. My advice for anyone traveling to Portland is to not limit yourself to only exploring the city and downtown area. The Rose Garden and the Children's Museum were highlights but we loved venturing outside the city-center during our two week trip. Mt. Hood is only a short drive, and there are hundreds of places to explore and hike in the Columbia River Gorge. Take the time to visit the Oregon Coast, and cross the border into Washington State to visit Mt. St. Helens.
