Travel Story

Fiancée Megan here! Lucas and I had known for about a year that we wanted to go on a trip this summer together. New York is a city we both loved and desperately wanted to visit. This past winter we booked our hotel and started planning! We arrived on Saturday evening and Lucas surprised me by telling me that he had made reservations for Sunday night at a restaurant in Central Park. We spent Sunday exploring Columbus Circle, 5th Avenue, and Rockefeller Plaza before returning to the hotel to get ready for dinner. Our "dinner reservations" were planned for 7:45, but both Lucas and I wanted to walk around the park, so we decided to head that way around 6:00. Lucas mentioned one spot that he saw online he wanted to visit, which was right over the Bow Bridge with a gorgeous view of the West Side. We slowly made our way to the spot, stopping for many pictures, only to be met with photoshoots and groups of people taking up the area. At that point, I saw how pretty it was and wanted to get a picture of the two of us there, so we decided to walk around and come back in a few minutes when it was hopefully cleared out. We were in luck for the second try, and Lucas asked a random guy to take our picture in front of the view. After getting his phone back, Lucas stepped away from me, told me how beautiful I was, and dropped to one knee where he asked me to marry him. Little did I know at the time, the seemingly random guy who took our picture was actually Johnny, a photographer Lucas hired through Flytographer to take pictures of our engagement and a planned photoshoot afterwards (the dinner reservation was a ploy to make sure we were in the park at the right time). I was caught in total surprise as Lucas did an excellent job of throwing me off of any suspicion. We were not planning on getting engaged this summer, but after his great-grandmother passed away in April and left him what is now the center stone of my engagement ring, he started planning. I cannot wait to spend forever with my best friend and continue this journey we've already been on for 6 and a half years.
