Travel Story

It was our first time in Japan (for the both of us) and we wanted to visit Tokyo and another city. Kyoto seemed to be a good choice : not to far from Tokyo, easy to reach and the presence of a lot of interesting places. We have a lot of great memories in Kyoto (the gorgeous Kinkaku-ji, the quiet Arashiyama Bamboo Grove...) but one of the most surprising thing was meeting the deers in Nara Park. It was once of those magical moments where you can actually interact with animals without having them in a closed environment. We could have spent hours there, feeding them, petting them and just ... looking at them doing ... well ... "deer stuff".

Travel Tips

There a lot to see/do in Kyoto : 1) The gorgeous Kinkaku-ji (a Golden temple). Easy to access with the subway and a bus; 2) The Nara Park as mentioned before; 3) The Arashiyama Monkey Park. After a small walk (15-20 minutes), you will be able to observe monkeys living their monkey-life, wandering around tourists... To be precise, those animals are "Japanese macaque"; 4) The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. Basically it is "green tunnel" but it is quite impressive how these Bamboo Grove is able to "cut" you from the noise of the city (even if Kyoto is quite quiet). We strongly advice to go there early in the morning or at the end of the endto avoid the crowd; 5) The Fushimi Inari-taisha, which is a Shinto Sanctuary. As mentioned before, you will avoid the crowd by going there early in the morning. You might be a bit tired but you would be able to fully enjoy the place. This is just the must see in Kyoto, there are a lot of less known places that worth visiting We have two tips for Kyoto : 1) The city is not small. Looking at the map, we thought that Kyoto was a medium-sized city but it is quite huge. We strongly recommend to use the public transportation system to save some time (if you stay for a 2 to 3 days for instance). If you like walking, this won't be a problem for you! 2) If you bought a "PASMO" card in Tokyo, you could use it in Kyoto as well!
