Travel Story
Our first trip to Honolulu was in June 2023 and despite it being a 9 hour flight from Chicago, we found it be one of our favorite places to visit. Naturally when we were planning our 2024 travel, we had to come back! The island of Oahu offers a variety of activities, food and culture that makes for a memorable vacation. Our favorite memory is visiting the North Shore and spotting a beautiful sea turtle soaking up the sun then returning to sea. The natural beauty in Hawaii is endless.
Travel Tips
We highly recommend renting a car for a day or two to explore the island. It’s easily drivable and doesn’t take much time to get from one point to another. Take a hike at Diamond Head (reservation required so plan ahead) for breathtaking views of Waikiki. Visit the Dole Plantation and take the train ride to learn the history of pineapple crops on the island (among other plants) and enjoy a Dole Whip treat. Try surfing at Waikiki beach too; the water is beginner friendly and access to board rental is easy. One thing we enjoy is to seek out new coffee shops. If you’re a coffee aficionado, visit Kona Coffee Purveyors. Their Kona espresso drinks are unmatched and they have a variety of pastries that are sure to delight everyone. Our girls love their chocolate croissant and we enjoy their famous Kouign Amann.
