Travel Story

Our trip to the island of Oahu, Hawaii had two important purposes and that was to spend quality time together as a family building new adventurous memories and to explore this gorgeous island filled with bucket list opportunities and stunning views. We spent nine glorious days on the island and could have easily filled nine more experiencing new things. Our favorite moments were watching the sun rise on Lanikai Beach, sailing in a catamaran along the Ko'olau Mountains with Kualoa Ranch, and snorkeling at Three Tables on the North Shore with its crystal clear turquoise waters.

Travel Tips

Where do we begin? Every day was filled with our favorite moments and new favorite activities! Our favorite memories were watching our children's eyes light up with new discoveries, accomplished goals, and pure amazement at the beauty before them. One of our children was most enthralled with the fire dancer at Tropical Macadamia Nut Farm (tour is $20 for adults and $10 for keiki - and is worth every penny!) and the fierce warrior at the free Aloha Friday show at the Hyatt Regency in Waikiki weekly from 4:30-6:00pm. Another child squealed for joy underwater as he snorkeled for the first time at Hanauma Bay and Three Tables. Get to Hanauma Bay before 7am for easy parking, free admission, and a bay filled with fish before the crowds arrive and scare them away. He also body surfed for hours in the waves of Kailua Bay with its beautiful water and soft white sand. Our daughter told me before her trip that her main goals were to take a hula lesson and make her own lei. We accomplished both with free activities in Waikiki. Hula lessons are offered a few times a week at the Royal Hawaiian Center and Aloha Friday at the Hyatt offers free lei making as well. Snorkeling was also a bucket list activity for her and she counted 400 fish in three days of snorkeling. My husband and I were happy just seeing our children so filled with joy. We also enjoyed a beautiful beach side brunch at Duke's Canoe Club with an early morning, peaceful beach view along the rail. Sunrise photography, mountain views at Ho'omaluhia Gardens, our sunset photo shoot on Kailua Beach with Tara, and plenty of pineapple and lilikoi shave ice rounded out our favorite moments.
