Travel Story

When my husband and I married 15 years ago, "engagement photos" as we know them today were not really a thing. Fast forward to 15 years later and Facebook notifies me of something called "Flytographer". I liked what I saw and we already had our 10-Day anniversary trip to Italy booked, so we pulled the trigger! We flew into Venice and enjoyed a few days there, wandering the city and the canals. Venice allowed us to get a feel for the culture and local cuisine. Everything was very relaxed and peaceful. Tourism was high, but it was not a part of high season so it wasn't too crowded. It was a nice ease into Italy and we enjoyed the Basilica and water taxi's. From Venice we took the train to Florence, which is soooo picturesque. We stayed at the historic Hotel Baglioni, took a Chianti wine tour, took an "Inferno" (Dan Brown book) tour, did some leather shopping and hit up the museum. This is also where we had our Flytographer shoot! We chose Tania and she was simply a delight. We wanted a mix of candid and posed shots and she was on it. We felt very comfortable with her and with her extensive knowledge of the city she gave us some restaurants and local foods to try. She even suggested the little coffee shop we got some of our most amusing photos from. The photo shoot was one of the highlights of our trips and we were so pleased with how our anniversary photos turned out. We were quite sad when it was time to leave Florence after 4 days as it quickly became my favorite city. From Florence we took the train to Rome for our remaining 3 days. The scale of nearly everything historic in Rome is simply something to behold. It's hard to wrap your mind around how historic, old and how many incredible things have happened in Rome. We hit up the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, the Roman Forum, the Colosseum and Vatican City. Even being out of peak tourist season, this city was completely chock full of tourists. The colors, the culture, the people and the history of Italy definitely made an impact on me and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to enjoy 10 days there. As I mentioned earlier, Florence was my fave. Florence was simply magical.

Travel Tips

Venizia: 1. Piazzo San Marco was fun. You can get lost in the alleys as there are hundreds of tiny little shops just bursting with fun things to do, see, eat, drink and/or purchase! 2. Il Mercante for cocktails! They have some extremely unique fun drinks. One that I ordered came in a box! I would suggest somewhere else for dinner though, they don't have much in the way of food and the place is extremely small. Firenze: 1. La Reggia degli Etruschi is a bus ride away to Fiesole, it is extremely reasonably priced and has a view of all of Florence. It's up a hill near a monestary. The food, wine and service was all on point!! 2. Grape Tours for wine! They have a Chianti tour where you can hit up 2 lovely wineries AND you get to have lunch at the famous Crazy Butcher Dario's restaurant. That lunch was the best lunch I had in all of Italy. Roma: 1. The night Colosseum tour was fantastic and we got to see more than the regular tours. Plus, it was much cooler temperature-wise. Highly recommend.
