Travel Story
For our annual summer family vacation, we sought out a Caribbean destination that offered a perfect blend of exploration, relaxation, and a chance to immerse ourselves in new sights, culture, and cuisine. After extensive research, we settled on Curaçao, enticed by its stunning crystal turquoise waters, picturesque mountains, and abundant activities for the family. Over the course of seven unforgettable days, we indulged in snorkeling with sea turtles and vibrant marine life, uncovering a sunken tugboat and coral reefs. We also explored Shete Boka National Park, where we were greeted by scenic hiking trails, witnessing powerful waves crashing against the rocky coastline as well as a cave. An exciting yacht trip on board the Miss Ann for my husband's birthday took us to Klein Curaçao, where we marveled at the lighthouse and shipwreck and experienced amazing service, food and a guided snorkeling tour from the ship's crew. Some of our favorite beaches we visited were Kokomo beach (an amazing swim beach), Playa Grandi/Playa Piskado where we snorkeled with the sea turtles, Grote Knip (another great swim beach where beach pigs roam) and Tugboat beach (where we found the sunken tugboat on a spectacular self-guided snorkel trip).
Travel Tips
We rented a car and ended up being able to drive anywhere we wanted on the island and aside from the yacht trip to Klein Curaçao, we planned our own activities and brought our own snorkel gear. We did rent fins and life vests at Tugboat beach and also partcipated in the create your own artwork and were guided by the local artist to paint a piece of driftwood. That was a fun activity for the kids to do and we were able to bring home a few pieces of unique artwork that we created to remind us of our vacation. The Dutch architecture of the city of Willemstad left us in awe, with the vibrant and colorful buildings, which was a perfect location for our family photo session with Claudia of Flytographer. We were impressed with the fantastic array of restaurants and cuisines we discovered during our stay. Our favorite restaurants were Soi95 and Tabooshh!
