Courtney's Travel Tips for Victoria

What are the best places to eat and drink in Victoria?

Blue Fox on Fort Street is the absolute best breakfast place in the city, by far! Yes, there will probably be a line up to get in. Yes, it is worth waiting in the line. Yes, I do tell people waiting in the line that it's worth the wait if I hear them asking that question out loud while I walk by. The hollandaise sauce in particular is the best I have ever had in my life and I would drink it if I could do so without fielding concerned looks from strangers. For lunch or dinner, hit up Pink Bike for delicious artisanal burgers made from locally sourced ingredients, or Foo Asian Street Food for street food classics with a twist!

What are the best things to do in Victoria?

I love the petting zoo at Beacon Hill park, especially in the spring when all the kids are born and frolicking around! Other can't-miss places are the Royal BC Museum and IMAX (the biggest screen in BC at over 6 storeys tall), Fisherman's Wharf (cute float houses and great food options) and a walk along the Breakwater for ocean and mountain views. Also be sure to check out Ghostly Walks (if you're feeling spooky) or Discover the Past (if you want some plain old fashioned historical fun) walking tours, both by the same company. The guides are wonderful, enthusiastic, and so much fun. They share fascinating facts and stories about downtown Victoria on hour long walking tours, which are my favourite way to experience new cities. You get to see a bunch of cool places you might otherwise have missed, and get to learn the historical context of what you're seeing. Can't recommend it enough!

What is the best tip for a romantic getaway in Victoria?

Definitely walk along Dallas Road at sunset. You get fabulous waterfront views and there are plenty of benches along the way to sit, cuddle, and watch the light fade. Candle-lit dinner at the Tapas Bar or Perro Negro won't go amiss either :D

What are the best things to do in Victoria?

Indulge in a spa day and lay by the pool outside at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel Rent kayaks at nearby Oak Bay Marina and explore the coastline Explore the eclectic shops inside Fan Tan Alley - Canada's narrowest alley! Also, there is great shopping on Johnson Street, just a block away from Fan Tan Alley. My favourites are Citizen, Still Life and Bernstein & Gold
