What are the best places to eat and drink in Tamarindo?

About a 30 minute drive from Tamarindo you’ll find Playa Avellanas which will feel far removed from the hustle and bustle of Tamarindo. Spend the day at Lola’s, take a long walk down the beach and enjoy the quieter side of this area.

What is the best tip for travelling with kids to Tamarindo?

It’s easiest to get around on foot, so if your kids are young enough bring your wearable carrier and hike around that way! A stroller won’t do well on the non-paved roads.

You must do a sloth tour! We booked a tour through Airbnb but there are many vendors to choose from. We saw multiple sloths in just a few hours, including some babies. So adorable and unique. And like everyone in Costa Rica, the guides were so friendly and conversational.

Talk to the locals! Costa Ricans are some of the kindest and friendliest people you will meet in the world. Even if you don’t know a lick of Spanish, chances are you can still communicate as most speak or understand a little English. I had the most fun speaking in my little to no Spanish with the park ranger at Palo Verde, the two fellas watching our car at Playa Hermosa and the sweet young ladies serving our delicious ice cream at Pops! It is so fun to get to know these wonderful people.

What is your best overall travel tip for Tamarindo?

Take the time to road trip across the country - the landscapes and wildlife change as you move from the wet to dry regions, and you're doing the country an injustice if you only limit your visit to one side!
