Casa Piriquita. loved how such a well known cafe was so authentic and no frills in service. Try the toast - it was quite decadent!
The views. All the hills and buildings that seem to rise above it! The hidden castles! The mercurial weather system that seems to make Sintra a world of its own.
If your child is carsick, be prepared! The drive up to Sintra is definitely not for the weak of stomach, with narrow steep roads that wind up and down steep mountains. Don’t attempt it with a bigger car!

Don’t just do a day trip from Lisbon, stay & give yourself time to explore as many castles & gardens as you can. Explore all of the gardens at the Quinta da Regaleira - don’t read about it first, enjoy discovering it for yourself.
We stayed in Colares and loved being near the beaches and only a 20 min drive into Sintra. We absolutely want to return!!
Find the Seratti path to walk up to the top. It’s beatifilly landscaped.
