George's Travel Tips for Rome

What are the best places to eat and drink in Rome?

Rolli 1 in Via Ettore Rolli in Trastevere is a great little place. No menus in English and the staff mostly doesn't speak English either so be ready to use your phone to translate if necessary.

What are the best things to do in Rome?

The Pantheon and the Colosseum obviously, but also just walking around the city and discovering things.

What is the best tip for travelling with kids to Rome?

A promise of a scoop of gelato in the evening gives them (and me) something to look forward to when they get tired of sightseeing during the day. Let them discover what they're interested in - my three year old didn't care about the ancient monuments but loved looking at the scooters, so we would help look for them and make sure to point them out. A soccer game is a neat experience for kids and is somewhat different from the experience of attending a baseball/football/basketball game in the states.

Katherine's Travel Tips for Rome

What are the best places to eat and drink in Rome?

The food in Rome is insanely amazing! Try to go to the spots a little farther away from the main tourist attractions. Eat pizza for any meal of the day and always get gelato. Our favorite gelato spot was Flor Gelato in the Monti neighborhood near the Colosseum.

What are the best things to do in Rome?

Absolutely do a private golf cart tour when you first arrive in Rome! It's an amazing way to get the lay of the land, see a lot of different spots, and then decide where you want to spend more time. We were there in July so it was really hot and the golf cart was such a nice way to get around instead of a walking tour.

What is your best travel tip for Rome?

Check out my blog, theweekendfox.com for more tips! But also hit up the popular spots first thing in the morning and then as it gets hotter, head back to the hotel to relax and have an espresso! Then go back out as it cools down in the late afternoon. It's one of those cities where you can easily get burnt out from all of the site-seeing. If you add in scheduled relaxing during the day, you might actually get to see everything you want to see!

The best advice is to wake up early and go to see the main attractions (Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Colloseum, etc) as the sun is coming up. There are very few people out and you will be able to capture beautiful sunrise photos.

Krista's Travel Tips for Rome

What is your best overall travel tip for Rome?

If you plan on seeing the big things (Colosseum, Vatican City), I highly recommend booking a tour and doing it 6 weeks in advance - the lines can get really crazy and tours sell out fast! I also highly recommend going where the locals go - totally immersing yourself in the local culture is the best way to really experience a new city. Ask you conceirge where THEY go to get dinner/drinks - not the regular touristy places, but the hole-in-the-wall, off the beaten path, hidden gems - THAT is where the magic truly happens. You will not regret it!
