Eric's Travel Tips for Quebec City

What is your best overall travel tip for Quebec City?

We live in a tourist town so we know what it's like for guest to come and not see the "real" city. We also know what it's like person who lives in a tourist city have to deal with tourist. Quebec City is very much a tourist city. We opted to go during the off season and it was the best thing for us. I would suggest taking it slow and not having things planned because if you meet someone like we did, they may put you on a completely different path of experiences. We intend to come back during "tourist season" because we were told that while you need to more disciplined with your reservations and planning, the city has a different feel during the summer months. I can't wait to see how the winter carnival and winter experience compares to the summer experience.

We rented a car to explore the city. The best light to take picture is before the sunrise and after the sunset. I am glad that we had a great memory during the sunset.

Be prepared to walk up and down stairs and steep inclines. We loved it but it's definitely a trek. Also, stop and explore all the streets and ally ways of Old Quebec and Place de Royale.

We stayed in the city walls in Old Quebec, there's just so much charm to this part of Quebec City. The Petit Chateau was our favorite spot for breakfast, they have the best crepes! Fou de Bio is an organic market with lots of maple souvenirs and the best cheese! We also spent time in Place Royale and had lunch at La Pizz, their pizza is so good we went back twice!

Amberlyn's Travel Tips for Quebec City

What is your best overall travel tip for Quebec City?

If you can handle the cold, I would certainly suggest visiting Quebec City around the Holidays. There is truly MAGIC in the air that time of year (we went in December). We did find that there is even more open in January post-Christmas (such as the ice hotel, lifts around the Montmorency Falls, winter activities) but you are sure to find plenty to do at any time of year in Quebec City! Upon our next visit- when I am not pregnant- we would love to partake in some winter activities such as snow tubing, dog sledding and skiing. For dining, we enjoyed a nice lunch at Lapin Sauté and were spoiled over a lavish dinner at Le Continental. Ciel is also a MUST visit for panoramic views over the city- as the restaurant makes a full 1.5 hour rotation over the course of your meal.

Visit Montmorency falls and then take a hike in the woods on the other side of the bridge. It was not too far and very fun in the snow! Also have a drink at the chateau frontenac bar. Avoid Air Canada at all cost!
