What are the best places to eat and drink in New Orleans?

As someone who cannot eat gluten, I have some favorites. Mais Arepas is the first restaurant I eat at every time I travel to New Orleans. Casamento's has amazing fried seafood. Chef Ron's has gluten free gumbo and red beans and rice. Bearcat has terrific breakfast options. French Truck has the best oatmilk cafe au lait.

What are the best things to do in New Orleans?

Ride the streetcar to Audubon Park and wander through it. Then, walk up and down a couple of streets close by to see the beautiful homes. Finish by walking up Magazine Street to do some shopping. Another day, take the streetcar the other way and go to City Park. Don't miss the sculpture garden.

What is your best overall travel tip for New Orleans?

Wear comfortable shoes and do lots of walking. If you've got a car, choose "avoid highways" and drive on the city streets. It rarely adds much time to your journey but you'll get to see the city.

What are the best places to eat and drink in New Orleans?

The Bourbon House - nice, upscale place to celebrate a special occasion, right on Bourbon street. Great food and good drinks to try!

What are the best things to do in New Orleans?

Go fish! We tried bowfishing and it was a really fun experience, and we caught a good amount of fish to take home. It was a different fishing experience but also something we could do close to the city and out on the bayou for an authentic swamp experience. We also stopped by the WWII Museum thinking we would just spend a couple of hours there but ended up spending the whole day there! It is a different museum feel with interactive exhibits that keep you intrigued every step of the way.

What is your best overall travel tip for New Orleans?

Do some research. There is a good amount to "get done" while there, so hop online ahead of time and see what you are interested in trying to fit in. Also, get check out coupon sites and the the local sites of each place to see if there are discounts available (a lot of places give discounts for just buying tickets online). Stay in the French Quarter - it will have you some place where you can easily walk to everything you want to see or have easy access to the bus/streetcar system (super convenient).

If you're feeling adventurous, rent a blue bike in the French Quarter and ride the Lafitte Greenway bike path to City Park. Once you get there stop for cafe au lait and a beignet at Cafe Du Monde and then wander through the sculpture garden. You can take the streetcar back to the French Quarter and get to know the city a little better.

Diffinantly the WW II Museum in New Orleans was one of my faves.  But I also love architecture and seeing the old homes in the area. We had a blast with our fishing guide Kris Hebert, and staying on his houseboat in Lafitte was fun for everyone.

Take a jazz cruise on a paddleboat tour down the Mississippi! We went on one and had a great time. We chatted with other passengers, enjoyed watching people dance to the jazz band playing on the promenade and let the day slowly fade into night. It was a great way to end our day out and about in the city.

What is your best overall travel tip for New Orleans?

Don't miss the Jazz Brunch at Broussard's! Bottomless mimosas for $12, fun live music, and the food is incredible! If you're in town during the summer months, stop by The Country Club in Bywater. The food, drinks, and atmosphere are amazing, but there is also a super stylish pool outside with full-service bars and food menus. They also have a crazy-fun drag brunch, but the waiting list is months long, so book in advance!

BRAD's Travel Tips for New Orleans

What is your best overall travel tip for New Orleans?

New Orleans is a city of neighborhoods each with their own character. The soul of it lives in all the little places in between, so get lost in the French Quarter; wander down Frenchmen Street; stroll along the Garden District! Most importantly though, they don't call it "The Big Easy" for nothing. Down in NOLA, plans are not meant to be followed and give way to wandering and adventure. Follow the sound of jazz music to that hole in the wall. Get that three foot long hurricane drink. Eat that extra beignet. Laissez bons temps rouler!
