- make reservations at popular bars/restaurants ahead of time (especially on weekends) - the Google app gives you access to Google Lens, a service which allows you take a picture of text and translate it nearly instantly (menus, signs, museum descriptions, etc.). Michelle's Travel Tips for Mexico City

What are the best places to eat and drink in Mexico City?

The food scene in CDMX was one of the major reasons we went there. We spent a week eating our way around the city and it was heaven. The best restaurants we went to were Masala y Maiz and Quintonil — very spendy but worth every penny. For breakfast/brunch, Molino El Pujol was so good we went twice, and our Flytographer Alejandra recommended Chilpa for amazing chilaquiles (and the homemade granola is outstanding -- you can purchase a bag to bring home, which I definitely suggest you do). For street tacos, look for the stands with queues of locals ... you know it's good.

What are the best things to do in Mexico City?

Besides eating, we went to a number of excellent museums, which CDMX has an abundance of. Standouts were the Museo Jumex, Frida Kahlo's house, and Museo del Estanquillo. We were a week in the city and spent each day in a different neighbourhood wandering around and exploring; favourites were Condesa (where we stayed), Roma Norte, Juarez, Coyoacán, and San Angel. Visiting the pyramids at Teotihuacan was also worth the trip outside the city.

What is the best tip for a romantic getaway in Mexico City?

Make reservations at a few special restaurants and bars before you go (many of the top ones book early and fast, so plan ahead!), but leave lots of room for exploring, as there is so much to see and do in CDMX. We were lucky that our hotel had a rooftop patio where you could take your own bottle of wine, so we spent most evenings up there by ourselves, chatting about the day and planning for the next one while watching the beautiful sunset (which is early, around 6pm) before heading out for the rest of the evening. If you can find a similar refuge, I highly recommend it as a way to recharge!

What are the best things to do in Mexico City?

Xochimilco boat rides, Coyacan markets and a visit to Frida Kahlo's house. Teotihuacan ruins for sure and the Chapultepec Park

What is the best tip for travelling with kids to Mexico City?

So much too do you can't go wrong! Get a driver for further away places like Xochimilco and the ruins. But walk the park, go to the kids museum Papelote! And make sure you have rest times too - the city is huge and can be overwhelming to kids. I think we wore ours out within 3 days!

Monica's Travel Tips for Mexico City

What is your best overall travel tip for Mexico City?

Live like a local and try to stay in one of the more interesting neighborhoods like Condesa, Roma Norte or San Rafael. We rented a great apt through Airbnb and really got to enjoy some wonderful restaurants, local shopping and mostly getting to know other families that live in the neighborhood who we ended up having so much fun with since our kids were all the same age!
