Tara's Travel Tips for Martha's Vineyard

What are the best places to eat and drink in Martha's Vineyard?

You can't visit the island without a stop into Black Dog Cafe! With several locations, it's easy to hit up for their fresh baked goods, sandwiches, coffee, and retail selections. My husband and I also love Bad Martha's Brewery in Edgartown. The outdoor area is beautiful and they share space next to a nursery so it's full of blooms and trees as you enjoy your craft beer. If you have time, play a game of Jenga or Jumbo Connect 4!

What are the best things to do in Martha's Vineyard?

My family of three enjoyed walking the path to the Edgartown Harbor Light near the beach watching sailboats and kites coast by. We also visited the Cliffs at Aquinnah for the magnificent views of Gay Head Light as well as the ocean. We stopped over for fresh seafood at Larsen's Fish Market (be prepared to wait) and walked right over to Menemsha Beach to eat in the sand while observing beach goers.

What is the best tip for travelling with kids to Martha's Vineyard?

Bring snacks and include them in your adventures! Our umbrella stroller was more than enough while walking the streets in each island town checking out the shops. A must do is ice cream! We loved Mad Martha's Ice Cream in Oak Bluffs which was an easy stop before boarding the last ferry back over to Woods Hole. I've heard good things about an alpaca farm in Oak Bluffs that is also great for kids!

William's Travel Tips for Martha's Vineyard

What is your best overall travel tip for Martha's Vineyard?

We loved Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard, but if we had to offer one tip it would be to prepare for all weather conditions! We went in mid-May, so one day it was sunny and mid-70's, the next day it was below 50 and raining ALL day! Perhaps research some indoor and outdoor activities to do in the event the weather is erratic.

The homes surrounding Edgartown’s historic town center are simply gorgeous! Grab an ice cream cone and take an hour or two to wander the neighborhood. As a professional (I wish) house stalker, I can say that these beautiful, classic, historic homes can’t be missed!
