La Latina is a lively neighbourhood built on a medieval fort with several tapa bars, restaurants, plazas, and churches — just the right combination you would expect in central Madrid. However, it's still an off-the-beaten-path location where you can visit a hidden garden with excellent city views that most locals don't know about. After the garden, head to the Basilica de San Francisco El Grande, but toward its backside, for a different photo background without all the tourists that usually flock to the area. Longer bookings can extend to the Mercado de la Cebada, whose colourful domes are public works of art. This is the right formula if you're looking for an authentic take on Madrid.
