Lisa's Travel Tips for Florence

What are the best places to eat and drink in Florence?

Our favorite place to stop for pizza in Florence is Mangia Pizza. The pizza is delicious and you can watch them make the pizza right in front of you which is so much fun for kids.

What are the best things to do in Florence?

We love going to the Boboli Gardens with our daughter. She has the best time running through the garden and seeing all of the beautiful flowers, plants and statues.

What is the best tip for travelling with kids to Florence?

Some of my tips for traveling to Florence with kids specifically toddlers is to take advantage of grab and go options from cafes and restaurants. Enjoy a panini or pastry while you stroll around the city with your little one. Explore areas away from the city center; there are so many beautiful gardens and parks to enjoy.

Jessica's Travel Tips for Florence

What are the best places to eat and drink in Florence?

Il Profeta was an amazing restaurant, the owners Claudio and Martina are the best hosts and the food was superb! Highly recommend. Try the "John Travolta" pasta. View on Art rooftop bar has an incredible view of the Duomo and great for aperitivo. Gucci Osteria is a fun experience with very fancy and good food!

What are the best things to do in Florence?

Duomo is incredible. Do not miss it! Make sure to make a reservation if you want to see the Galleria Academia (statue of David), we tried to go last minute and had no luck.

What is the best tip for a romantic getaway in Florence?

We did a multi-city trip and didn't have very much time in Florence, but Florence was our favorite stop! Spend as much time as you can in Florence, it is incredible. Take some time to just walk around and do nothing. It's the best way to see the city. We rented a Vespa and were going to go visit some wineries in the countryside, but we got in a little accident (everyone is okay!) because we didn't know where we were going or how to navigate the streets. Don't be like us, and probably don't rent a Vespa and try to drive it around the city! I would suggest going to see some wineries, but maybe find alternate transportation :)

What are the best things to do in Florence?

The Basilica di San Lorenzo doesn't seem like much from the outside compared to the duomo but it is a must see inside I think. Take the bus to some places outside the city like Tepidarium Giacomo Roster, it is an unbelievable greenhouse with an amazing park... I would suggest taking a picnic there:)

What is the best tip for a romantic getaway in Florence?

Take it slow and enjoy every moment. Spend time exploring the hidden streets and places that aren't so popular. Florence is one of the most beautiful cities, you can't do it wrong.

Grace's Travel Tips for Florence

What are the best places to eat and drink in Florence?

There are too many to pick just one! I Fratellini for panini in the city center, Gustapizza for takeaway pizza and a Coca Zero to enjoy on the steps of the nearby Santo Spirito church, Mercato di Sant’Ambrogio for fresh produce and typical Florentine dishes… And ALL of the gelato! Gelateria dei Neri is one of the best in Florence, and getting their caramello with your scoop is absolute must!

What are the best things to do in Florence?

No matter what the time of day or the weather, Piazzale Michelangelo is worth a visit or several to take in sweeping views of Florence. We also took a food tour that led us through local pasticcerie, mercati, and more to sample Florentine cuisine, including schiacciata all’uva - a traditional sweet and savory grape focaccia dessert baked in September.

What is the best tip for travelling with kids to Florence?

The people of Florence are extremely accommodating of families with children - and tolerant of breakdowns too. ;) Don’t hesitate to bring your kids along to museums, sites, and restaurants so they can experience everything fully! The most complicated aspect of traveling with children in Florence is transportation. Bring a collapsible stroller for easy stowing at crowded restaurants. Staying in the city center means you can get by with walking - but if you find yourself in the countryside like we were, you may need to look into alternatives like renting a car (with an approved car seat), the bus system, or taxis. We opted for taxis (sans car seat) as they are the quickest and easiest way to get around long distance, but do what feels safest for your family!

Maddison's Travel Tips for Florence

What are the best places to eat and drink in Florence?

If you're in the mood for a good Bistecca alla Fiorentina (and who isn't) try Buca Mario. Also, don't skip the Mercato Centrale. Upstairs, you can get some absolutely great food or coffee of any kind. We really love the Napoli pizza stall with a woodfire oven, but even the butcher for Tagliere or the bar for a spritz would be great stops.

What are the best things to do in Florence?

Walk just south of the Arno for about a 10-minute hike to Piazza Michelangelo for the most beautiful sunset I've ever seen, cresting right on top of the Duomo. Also, for a quick beer or spritz, stop by the Irish Bar right in the main square. It has a second-floor balcony window that hangs out of the lower cafe, where you get a fabulous view.

What is the best tip for a romantic getaway in Florence?

Pick up a car or schedule a small tour of Tuscany. Florence is incredible, but it gives you a lot of context to see the beautiful Medieval hilltop towns covered in vineyards to really understand the city.

Corey's Travel Tips for Florence

What are the best places to eat and drink in Florence?

Our favorite spot for a light dinner and some fabulous wine is Enoteca Pitti Gola e Cantina. The location is lovely in the evenings as it is right on the backside of Pitti Palace. They have wine parings with your food and everything we have tried has been fabulous.

What are the best things to do in Florence?

We really loved our time touring Tuscany vineyards! As much as we love the Florence city center, it can get crowded in the more popular areas. There are so many small towns surrounding Florence that are just as beautiful and the vineyards we visited were lovely. A food tour in Florence is a must! We loved sampling items from the Market Centrale. Evenings in Piazza della Signoria are magial. There is almost always a street musician playing and we loved bringing a glass of wine, sitting on the steps and watching the people socialize.

What is the best tip for travelling with kids to Florence?

Keep them moving! There are lots of acticities kids enjoy .. it doesn't have to all be museums and churchs. We did a cooking class that our kids loved! Plan to get a private tour guide for your museum days. The guide was able to talk about the paintings and tell stories about them that kept the kids engaged.

What is the best tip for a romantic getaway in Florence?

If you want to stay downtown on the river, stay at Hotel Lungarno. Gorgeous hotel and walking distance to everything. Plus has a Michelin Star restaurant. If you want a more relaxing time, stay at Villa Cora. Beautiful grounds/rooms, has a pool, staff is FANTASTIC, food is amazing. Still walking distance (about 1.5 miles from Ponte Vecchio), but far enough away to feel like a resort.

What are the best places to eat and drink in Florence?

Osteria Santo Spirito was amazing! The restaurant had a line of locals waiting for a table when we arrived, but we didn’t have to wait long. But honestly, even if we did it would have been worth it. The location was perfect for people watching at Piazza Sanyo Spirito, the food was the best we had all trip, and the olive pesto makes me drool just thinking about it.

What are the best things to do in Florence?

We loved Piazzale Michelangelo! The view of the whole city was breath taking, and the walk to the landmark was littered with adorable shops and cafes. Definitely worth it!

What is the best tip for travelling with kids to Florence?

Florence is very kid friendly. Just being allowed to explore the streets, museums, gardens, and being plentiful with the gelato and pizza made this city perfect for our daughter. We also did a cooking class where the chef really focused on teaching our daughter and made it a highlight of our trip. She loved it.

What are the best places to eat and drink in Florence?

Del Fagioli (but pls don’t crowd it!!) is a lovely Tuscan trattoria where the staff take the time to review the menu with you and explain each dish. Italian can be heard from the rest of the tables and the food is divine. True Italian experience. Cash only!

What are the best things to do in Florence?

Paninos to go from i Fratellini or All’Antico Vinaio with a glass of wine, strolling the Bardini Gardens above Florence, sipping on spritzes in piazzas while people watching, sitting on the walls of the Arno as the sun sets. Also the gelato!!!

What is the best tip for going on your honeymoon to Florence?

Don’t overbook yourself! The city is meant to be enjoyed with long walks around the Arno and the narrow streets, a bottle of wine at sunset on Piazza Michelangelo, and just soaking in la dolce vita. :)
