What are the best places to eat and drink in Florence?

Del Fagioli (but pls don’t crowd it!!) is a lovely Tuscan trattoria where the staff take the time to review the menu with you and explain each dish. Italian can be heard from the rest of the tables and the food is divine. True Italian experience. Cash only!

Paninos to go from i Fratellini or All’Antico Vinaio with a glass of wine, strolling the Bardini Gardens above Florence, sipping on spritzes in piazzas while people watching, sitting on the walls of the Arno as the sun sets. Also the gelato!!!

What is the best tip for going on your honeymoon to Florence?

Don’t overbook yourself! The city is meant to be enjoyed with long walks around the Arno and the narrow streets, a bottle of wine at sunset on Piazza Michelangelo, and just soaking in la dolce vita. :)

We Ristorante Profeta, it is husband and wife run and family owned for over 40 years. Their food was amazing, and Claudio and Martina made you feel apart of their family when you went to eat there. I would highly recommend the intimate dining experience to anyone visiting Florence.

Florence is a very self guided city. Great shopping, lots of eating, and beautiful architecture. We love visiting the Piazzale Michelangelo, especially for sunset. If you have the time go out to a vineyard or two in Tuscany, it’s close proximity and an awesome experience.

Read up on Florence's past and the major events that made the city into a living museum. Almost every corner has an interesting story. Knowing even a brief part of Florence's history makes this beautiful city come even more alive! Visit the secret Vasari Corridor that connects the Uffizi through to the Palazzo Pitti across the River Arno (note: it is currently closed but projected for a 2021 reopening).

The cooking class in a Tuscan farmhouse was absolute magic! We spent about 7 hours with the tour group and having time to learn how to cook while sipping wine and being tucked away with beautiful views felt like a dream. The Flytographer shoot is another tip I suggest to anyone with an adventure planned. I definitely recommend capturing the beautiful views of such a magical place, especially since it’s such a walkable city!

Take a cooking class with Montese Cooking Experience located just outside of San Gimignano. In Florence, we had a great lunch at La Bussola (sprinkle their Margherita pizza with the chili oil!). The bistecca alla fiorentina at Osteria Pepó was excellent.

You have to go eat at Pizzaiolo. It is outside of the city centre and the food is incredible. It is a very small family run restaurant that specializes in Napoletan food and pizza. It isnt a "Tuscan" experience, but an Italian experience nonetheless.

Jackie's Travel Tips for Florence

What is your best overall travel tip for Florence?

My favorite area of Florence was definitely the Oltrarno area. It's on the opposite side of the river from the majority of the typical tourist attractions, and it has such a hip, creative, down-to-earth vibe, which was really refreshing in a city that's full of so many visitors. If you want to get photos of the Duomo or the skyline from the Piazzale Michelangelo that aren't full of tourists in the background, I'd definitely recommend heading there early. We met at Piazzale Michelangelo at 7am (early, I know) for our photo shoot, and it was COMPLETELY worth it! Seeing that view with no one else around is truly something I'll remember forever.
