We loved Victor Hugo deli. They had great options for everyone in our family, including my son who’s allergic to dairy. Great coffee too! We stayed in Stockbridge, so aside from the obvious Edinburgh Castle experience, we loved Circus Lane and the shops and cafes in the area. We also enjoyed a walk along the water and Deans Village. My only wish is that we had one more day to spend in Stockbridge!

Playgrounds! We tried to discover and utilize playgrounds as much as we could to help entertain our children and burn some playing energy. We loved the one at Princes Street Gardens, and there was a great ice cream/sorbet shop close by which was also a hit!

Dive into the Fringe Festival. Tons of family/kid friendly activities. Our favorite was an immersive dance performance on a moving double decker red bus which took us around Edinburgh, all the while, with passengers performing on the bus. Amazing, immersive and so whimsical. It was like a dreamy little trip. And timed right, coincide your visit with the Edinburgh Book Festival. Love the unique vibes and venues at all the sites.

What is your best overall travel tip for Edinburgh?

For Scotland, I would say to rent a car and explore some of the smaller cities outside of Edinburgh. We loved the city {especially Old Town} but after about 2 days we were ready to step out and see some other areas! I would recommend driving to Callander--you pass some great sites on the way and the town is so cute! If you go, stay at Abbotsford Lodge.
