We actually toured BBQ restaurants in the Dallas/Ft. Worth and surrounding areas. Goldee's, Panther City, and Heim are local. If you're willing to venture outside of Dallas, visit Snow's BBQ in Lexington!!
The Bishop Arts District is a really cute area with many little shops and restaurants.

Dallas is such an easy place to travel solo. Everyone is so friendly!
We tried Off The Bone Barbecue, which is a black-owned restaurant in Downtown Dallas.
We traveled with kids and LOVED visiting Kidzania. It's like a miniature world for kids where they can try different jobs and earn "kidzos" (kid cash). Kidzania is actually in Frisco, but is easily driveable from Dallas. Dallas Zoo was also pretty large and the kids loved it. I would also recommend the Perot Museum and the Dallas Arboretum.
With or without kids, be mindful of the tolls because there are plenty. If you haven't purchased a pass, just adjust your GPS to "avoid tolls" and you should be good to go.
My favorite restaurants in Dallas is The Fearing’s at the Ritz Carlton for an upscale fancy dinner, Sixty Vines for a chic lunch, and Billy Can Can for an elegant but laid back dinner. My favorite bar in Dallas is The Tipsy Alchemist.

I would highly recommend the Bishop Arts District. This is the are we took our photos in and we enjoyed the vibrant, small town feel of the area. We also had an AMAZING dinner at Savor, which offered classy, contemporary American fare, as well as great ambience and excellent service.
