Johanny's Travel Tips for Cape Town

What are the best places to eat and drink in Cape Town?

Groot Constantia has a great restaurant with outdoor seating overlooking the vineyards. Get the tasting plate to try a variety of Cape Malay dishes, and of course the wine!

What are the best things to do in Cape Town?

If you love wine, I recommend visiting the Franschhoek wine region. They have a double decker wine tram that you can take and hop on and off at various wineries and vineyards. All the wine tastings you can handle and none of the hassle of a driving or Ubers.

What is the best tip for celebrating your birthday in Cape Town?

My favorite birthday to myself— a spa and wine day! Bougie on a budget? The hotels in Stellenbosch are gorgeous and luxurious with incredible views of vineyards, but can be quite expensive! But some hotel spas offer day passes. With a day pass at Delaire Graff Estate, you get spa services of your choice, a 7 course lunch, and access to their infinity pool and hot tub overlooking the vineyards!

Samantha's Travel Tips for Cape Town

What is your best overall travel tip for Cape Town?

We hired a guide to hike Lions Head on our first day, we did this because we were told that people sometimes get mugged when hiking the mountains in Cape Town, so we figured having a local with us would make for a bigger group, and hopefully he could deescalate any encounters (which luckily we didn't have) It was great because he told us a lot about Cape Town and gave us recommendations for things to do, and places to eat. We loved our guide so much we hired him for a full day tour to take us to some places he thought we would enjoy, which we did. Highly recommend visiting the Constantia Windelands- (we went to Groot Constantia, and Glen Constantia) both had absolutely amazing wines that we purchased to bring home with us. All the restaurants we went to were fantastic, but our favorite was The CodFather (in Camps Bay) hands down the best seafood I've ever had. The experience is unique too, you go up to a counter to select our fish (you can get many kinds) and how much of it you want, then they prepare it and bring it to your table. We saw some amazing animals on our safari to Aquila, the food was not great there though so pack many snacks.

Phoebe's Travel Tips for Cape Town

What is your best overall travel tip for Cape Town?

Take as much in the city as you can outside of it. The wineries an hour away are beautiful and charming and the beaches are spectacular. Visiting Robben Island and all of the prisons where Nelson Mandela was held is life changing as well. Mostly, embrace the people. They are happy, proud, joyous and absolutely beautiful.
