What are the best things to do in Bangkok?

We visited the Platinum shopping center in the city and it was amazing. It felt like it never ended and all of the little shops there were negotiable prices. It is a little bit of a walk from the BTS but totally worth it. We also did the Elephant Care Sanctuary, which is about 3 hours outside of Bangkok and it was my favorite day. A must-do for animal lovers! We also did a Tuk-Tuk Food tour that took us all over the city at night and allowed us to try a TON of Thai food that I would have never eaten on my own. It was super helpful to do this early in our trip since the local guides give you tips on where to go, when to go, and how to speak to the locals.

What is the best tip for going on your honeymoon to Bangkok?

The local transportation on the MRT and BTS is amazing. Very affordable and easy to navigate. If you are planning on using the public transit, I HIGHLY recommend purchasing the Rabbit card. You just need to bring your passport and they will issue it. We didn't get those because we didn't learn about it until it was too late. I would absolutely buy them since they will save you a lot of money in the long run.

We were worried that Jay Fai (the Michelin-starred spot) would be overhyped... it definitely was not! We loved everything we ate there! We also really liked the rooftop bar at the Banyan Tree - innovative cocktails and the view is stunning!

What is your best overall travel tip for Bangkok?

For Bangkok, I would suggest visiting the Wat’s early as there are not as many visitors and you can beat the midday heat. For Chiang Mai, I would suggest to experience the night market and to not miss an elephant experience.

Must go to Chiang Rai to see White, Blue and Black temples. If you are brave, drive like the locals on motorbikes in Bangkok. Moon Bar in Bangkok (you wont be disappointed). The elephant nature park in Chiang Mai (do the full day walking package). If you are up for a luxurious resort check out Anantara Riverside and get a massage (one of the best massages I've had). If you are certified check out Aussie Divers and do their 3 dive tour to Phi Phi Islands, Koh Bida Nok and Shark Point (the coral reefs are sooo vibrant). Thai cooking class and temples in bangkok (Wat Arun, Wat Pho and Grand Palace).

Also a must visit for a drink and the most stunning panoramic views of the city at sunset from Sky Bar - Lebua at State Tower. Also Riverside - 63rd Floor and Octave Rooftop Bar - Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit, all these are must visit rooftops. Also a visit to Chinatown is a must and the floating markets

Go during cooler months from Nov -march. Near Bangkok, there is a small floating market (khlong lad mayom) which is a delight to visit and if you have kids do not miss a river boat ride followed by a visit to the Artisan's house where they have a very educational and entertaining authentic Thai puppetry show.

What is your best overall travel tip for Bangkok?

We traveled with young kids so we made sure to plan things early in the morning to give ourselves time to get back to the hotel for naps. After nap time we were back out on the streets enjoying street food and all the local sights. The aquarium, malls, and pools made it easy to escape the heat for a couple hours during the hotter days.

Jenni's Travel Tips for Bangkok

What is your best overall travel tip for Bangkok?

Bangkok is very hot and humid, so be sure to bring light and airy clothing, but also remember to bring some clothing that covers your shoulders and knees if you want visit some of the 60+ temples in the city--and you will want to. The temples are beautiful. Bangkok is a city of contrast, so be sure to take time for both the impressive, modern city filled with shopping and dining and all the modern amenities as well as the the more traditional markets and temples and street food.
