We traveled with children ages 12, 11 and 5. There is plenty of safe space to run and play and lots of gelato to keep the children interested! The Greeks love children and they were made to feel special at restaurants and activities.

Zillers was a Michelin star dinner with the most amazing view!
Walking around so much history was amazing! The first time we saw the Acropolis, even from below it was so breathtaking. Rick Steve's has some good audio-tours so you can get more out of some of the ruins at the Agora.
Staying in the Syntagma neighborhood allowed us to walk to almost every attraction we wanted to see!

We loved dinner at Ergon House. It was a foodie experience that still appealed to our 5-year old: win win! We loved being able to pick up some Greek chocolates and other goodies from their market to bring home.
The sights in Athens are very walkable! We enjoyed a walking tour of the city- something you can do on your own or with a guide.
We made a game of “counting cats” on the streets on Athens- there are so many! Our little loved trying to count the most each day. We also discovered that with a digital camera in hand, she enjoyed the monuments and museums quite a bit more. She loved documenting her trip that way.
Favourite restaurant was Cookoovaya. The food was amazing, with incredible flavors and beautiful presentation. The ambiance was delightful as well.
The Ancient ruins of course! The amount of work it took to build all of it, and how many years it has stood the test of time. All done with only manual labor. A favorite tour is the "The taste of the town" tour. Loved doing the olive oil tasting, greek coffee experience, beautiful breads and pastries, and traditional greek food. "Heavenly!"

Mamacita in Plaka, Athens for some great margaritas and Mexican food!
We really liked the Acropolis Museum (recommended by our photographer) as a way to escape the summer heat while visiting the Acropolis. There is also a cafe inside which makes for an easy lunch stop. Also, don't miss Plaka at night!
A lot of the ancient sites don't have much left to see. The Acropolis/Parthenon are amazing- but pack your water and snacks if you're visiting on a hot day. The museums are a great break from the heat!
Talk to the people. They are so friendly and know so much!

We explored the neighborhood just Northeast of Hadrian's Library and it had amazing restaurants and bars.
We loved staying in thiseio and being able to wander around plaka and the acropolis. There were so many people to watch and stores to discover and small cafes to stop at.
