I highly recommend going out to Keukenhof if you are visiting in the spring! The Van Gogh museum and Rijksmuseums are incredible. I really liked the “hidden” library at the Rijks. The Moco museum is also a chill museum to visit.

What is the best tip for travelling with kids to Amsterdam?

Amsterdam is a walkable city, so a stroller for little ones is very helpful. Staying by the Grand Central Station helped, because it was close to everything. The restaurants that had the outdoor seating helped, the kids enjoyed people watching. The food and ambience was amazing. The kids really enjoyed the hop on/hop off bus as well! Very helpful when you have little ones!

The Van Gogh Museum is a can't miss (though you can easily miss it if you don't book your tickets months in advance). On a nice day, take the free ferry and a book from the Centraal station across the river and sit in the park to the left of the Eye Film Museum and enjoy the views.

What are the best things to do in Amsterdam?

Walking around Jordaan area, biking around the city and in Vondelpark, making a day trip out to neighboring cities like Utrecht or even visiting Efteling (highlight for our kids!)

What is the best tip for travelling with kids to Amsterdam?

Amsterdam is such a family friendly city! We loved traveling with our kids who are 7 and 3. It's easy to get around in a stroller for our toddler and our older one loved walking around and exploring the city. We stayed in the Jordaan area in an AirBnB which was perfect because it was away from the busy downtown area but still so convenient and near all shops and restaurants. One of the highlights of our trip was biking around the city and having a nice lunch at Vondelpark. Our 7-year-old rented his own bike and was able to ride along with us while my husband rented a bike with a cargo for our toddler. Another favorite was taking a day trip out to Utrecht (easy ride by train) which is the most charming neighboring town and had the most awesome train museum called Spoorwegmuseum. This was such a fun museum for kids all ages and wasn't crowded at all. It's a short walk or train ride from the main Utrecht train station. The main highlight of our trip was then training out to Efteling, one of the oldest amusement parks in Europe. We've been to many theme parks including Paris Disneyland and Disneyworld and this was still by far our favorite amusement park yet! It's about an hour car-ride out and a 2-hour train/bus ride from Amsterdam but it's not to be missed! We stayed a night at the Efteling hotel to get early access to the park the next day. We definitely would recommend this as a place to visit if families are traveling to Amsterdam and have the time!

What is the best tip for a romantic getaway in Amsterdam?

Staying on a houseboat for this trip brought us so much joy! We really took advantage of drinking wine and eating cheese on our own deck. It was fun to watch boats go by on the canal and just be secluded in our own space but still so connected to the city.

What are the best places to eat and drink in Amsterdam?

Old jenever bar with lots of character: Wynand Fockink For croquettes and fries with lots of sauce choices (peanut!): Heertje Friet For a yummy dinner: Verlan Microbrewery: Brouwerij'tij For drinks in Utrecht: Belgisch Biercafé Olivier (a converted church now beerhall)

What are the best things to do in Amsterdam?

Riding bikes, walking by the canals, going to Utrecht.

What is the best tip for a romantic getaway in Amsterdam?

We have both been to Amsterdam multiple times before but this was the first time being there together, so it was nice to just be able to do things more off-the-beaten-path. We (of course) rented bikes for a day and explored all over Amsterdam North (so fun to ride the bike straight onto the free ferry to cross the water), went to the fantastic Eye Museum, had lunch in the square outside the Street Art Museum and visited some studios, hit up microbreweries and jenever bars, rode to De Pijp for dinner, and then finished up with an evening ride along all the canals. Perfect day! Another tip if you have a day to spare: take a day trip to Utrecht, which has trains running all the time and takes only 20 mins to get to. The city is really pretty and well worth a visit. Other than that, Amsterdam is a diverse city with lots of things to discover, and our best advice is to just get yourself lost wandering or cycling around!
