Travel Story

For those of us living on the East Coast, we know that the winter can last too long and feel too cold. A few years ago we started a tradition of escaping the cold in January, at least for a weekend, for a little sun and time to defrost. My husband has been to Hawaii before more than 10 years ago, and shared his love of the islands with me. When we found a good flight deal, we booked this trip many months in advance. We knew we would be in a really special place, Maui, and decided early on that we wanted to have someone take photos of us there. We travel around the world, but if it's just the two of us, it's hard to get photos of us, and sometimes strangers don't want to be bothered or know how to work a camera too well. What we didn't know is that our shoot would include someone else: our baby boy, blooming inside of me. Our Maui trip turned into a babymoon, filled with beautiful sunrises and sunsets on the beach, hiking in a national park, driving the entirety of the Hana road, and relaxing in the sun every day. We are so happy to have these special photos, as it's a very special time in our lives as we await the arrival of our son. Our photographer, Marie, was wonderful. We felt relaxed and comfortable, and honestly just had an evening of fun at the beach. We both said that this shoot was one of the best parts of our Maui trip.

Travel Tips

We loved Monkeypod Kitchen so much (get the garlic truffle oil fries!). I love breakfast and pancakes especially, and Maui has so many great places to get banana macadamia nut pancakes (Gazebo being one of them). The beaches in Wailea were the most beautiful, and seeing the sunrise at Haleakala National Park was a memorable time--our winter coats came in handy for that cold morning! Everywhere you go in Maui you see beautiful flowers, hear live music, and see stunning sunsets and sunrises.
