We've always had Hawaii on our list for the destination of our 25th wedding anniversary. Kauai was the perfect laid-back island for hiking, lazy days at the beach, fishing, spa days and excellent food. I think my favorite memory is hiking to Hanakapi Beach (even though I hate hiking!) because it made my husband, an avid outdoorsman, so happy.
Travel Tips
Shave ice, every day! Let the island lead you. It's easy to book lots of fun things (helicopter tour with the doors off, boat tours, hikes to Waimea and Hanakapi Beach, spa days, fishing excursions, rum tasting, etc.), but take time to let the island laid-back vibe take over. Every day was an adventure in paradise. We absolutely loved Kauai and plan on coming back. A few tips we learned? Hike early in the morning (fewer people, not as hot). Puka Dogs are worth the hype. JoJo's and General Hee had the best shave ice. Beach House has a great fancy dinner. Quick fish tacos at Coconut's Fish Cafe are pretty great. The doors off helicopter tour with Jack Harter is worth every penny. Chocolate rum really is exceptional. And, the hike to Hanakapi might leave you with some bruises, but it's a stunner of a view. Finally, one MUST book a session with Flytographer. We loved Rachel! Oh, and grab a copy of "Kauai Revealed" guidebook. It never led us astray!
