Tlaquepaque
Mexican gem | Guadalajara, Mexico
Less than ten kilometres from Guadalajara, the small and quaint Tlaquepaque is renowned for its hand-painted pottery-making tradition and for being a photogenic, culturally vibrant town. Stroll along Calle Independencia, a walking street with colourful colonial buildings that today house a myriad of boutiques, cafes, and restaurants. Then head to Plaza Hidalgo, a lovely square with a central gazebo, many grassy areas, and a fountain — everything anchored by two impressive churches. Next to it is El Parián Kiosk, a perfect spot to grab a drink, enjoy some Mexican snacks, and listen to the embracing sounds of a mariachi band.
