What made you choose this proposal destination?

Since the beggining of our relationship we dreamed of a vacation to Italy, especially the beautiful Lake Como. Villa del Balbianello is our favorite Villa in Lake Como.

What is your proposal story?

She was surprised! We were nervous about the weather since it had been raining all morning, however the rain stopped and the proposal went perfectly. I could have not asked for a better photoshoot and proposal.

If you are planning to propose on a Villa, make sure to contact them way in advance. All Villas get booked months in advance. I booked Villa del Balbianello 4 months before the proposal. 100% recommend proposing in Lake Como, it is the most romantic.

We grew up down the street from each other

What is your love story?

We started as childhood friends and we started dating at the beginning of high school. We went to college together at UW-Madison and following graduation, we then moved to Chicago. We are each other’s best friend and couldn’t imagine growing up and living the rest of our life with anyone else.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

I wanted to propose in the most romantic, beautiful place and Lake Como absolutely exceeded our expectations.

What is your proposal story?

We had the most perfect day exploring Varenna and Bellagio. We returned to Varenna for cafe and drinks at the Villa Monastero Gardens and sat at a bench to watch the sunset over the lake. I handed her a few handwritten letters so we could reminisce on the last 9 years of our relationship. We then walked to the beach (that I had planned to propose and meet the photographer at) and handed her the last letter that ended with “Will you marry me?” and got down on one knee!

Best tip for proposing in Lake Como

Have someone local to the area (like a Flytographer) scout out possible locations because it is hard to predict how crowded areas will get. Try not to pack your day with visiting too many cities on Lake Como—stick with 1-3 because lines for the ferries can get long and there is so much to see in every city so take your time walking around, see some gardens and take in the views. Either propose in the morning or around sunset because the crowds get larger near the middle of the day.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

We were already going to Lake Como for a friends wedding so what better place to propose then in Italy on the water

What is your proposal story?

I told her we had breakfast reservations down on the water. There was a scenic spot perfect for pictures and told her we should take some before people showed up. Our photographer was there waiting and captured the moment.

What is your proposal story?

We got breakfast at our hotel and then took a little walk to this hidden beach where our photographer was waiting. Right as the proposal happened, a swan swam up right next us! It was magical. We spent the rest of the day exploring different towns around the lake and took a private boat ride at sunset.

What is your love story?

We met in church school at 13 but officially started dating in high school. We really each others presence and getting to know one another. Though we drifted apart during our college years, we found our paths crossing again after graduation and moved to New York to have a new adventure. We knew we were the one for each other because everything fell into place and we love everything about each other.

We've seen photos online of Lake Como so we knew this was the ideal spot to profess our love and commitment.

What is your proposal story?

We had a photoshoot scheduled during our week long Italy trip and our photographer had a code word for when we reached the location I wanted to propose, and when he said it I popped the question. Right after I proposed, it started raining so it was like the universe really wanted it to happen.

Get there early to avoid any crowds and ask your photographer plenty of questions because they'll know the venue better than anyone (especially if it's an international or far location).

What is your love story?

We first met working in a restaurant while in college. We always used to talk non stop at work but we were in different places in our lives while at work but would always keep in touch and find ourselves e reconnecting from time to time. A few years later we became more serious and the rest was history!

What made you choose this proposal destination?

We had a few days to spare before heading on a family vacation. Lake Como seemed and was the most beautiful place we have seen. Plus, a hotel that we have been yearning to go to in Bellagio had made our decision that much easier!

What is your proposal story?

Bree and I had gotten ready for a boat tour around the lake before finally arriving in the town if Varenna. We had been dropped off at Villa Monestero where the photographers were in position for the perfect shots!

What is your love story?

We had been best friends for 10 years before starting to date. Once love blooms and you cross that line there is simply no turning back!

What made you choose this proposal destination?

We both love Italy, and Lake Como is simply a magical destination. But more specifically, Claudia loves Star Wars, so proposing at one of the filming locations was just the perfect choice.

What is your proposal story?

I booked a secret trip to a secret destination with the excuse of our 2-year dating anniversary only revealing it 5 days before the trip. I scheduled the surprise proposal on the last day so that she wouldn’t be expecting it. Everything turned out perfect and memorable!

Book in advance! Choosing the right Villa for a photoshoot implies booking a time slot with them, and in busy seasons the most popular ones tend to be fully booked. Also, plan your logistics wisely, better to have a hotel/airbnb as close as possible to your photoshoot spot.

What is your love story?

Our first date was amazing and on our second date I sat opposite her over a drink and thought to myself "This girl is incredible, I can really see myself spending a long long time with her". From there we have gone from strength to strength and she is the most loving, caring, kind sweet and thoughtful person. She really gets me and every minute I spend with her is the best.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

Lake Como is so beautiful and it was a bucket list destination for both of us. We had 3 failed trips to Lake Como last year and during covid, and this time around I wanted to make it extra special after waiting so long.

What is your proposal story?

I had done a lot of planning before our proposal, but to cut a long story short, I convinced Tilly we were getting the ferry to Lenno to view Villa del Balbianello, but surprised her and told her we were going elsewhere to Villa Melzi instead. We got to the gates before the venue opened and we stopped at our first spot, I took a few selfies with her to signal to Matt that I was ready and then got on one knee. From there it was all a blur, I had all these things I wanted to say and my mind went blank. I'm just super glad Tilly said yes!

Best tip for proposing in Lake Como

Ensure you book ferries and travel in advance, as they can be a little hit and miss. If the weather forecast is bad, don't worry, Matt will make your moment so special anyway! It rained the morning of the proposal but cleared up by the time I was ready, the weather was beautiful and Matt captured our moment so well.

What is your love story?

A first date that took almost six months to make happen, turned into a lifetime of happiness! Danielle is a motivated, caring, adventurous, outgoing and not to mention beautiful woman! She was exactly what I was searching for and I’ll call it fate that brought us together. A bumble match that somehow was forgotten about for months, resurfaced like a slap in the face. The first time we met was at Berry Park in Williamsburg Brooklyn , where I knew she would steal my heart.

What made you choose this proposal destination?

Danielle and I had planned a trip to northern Italy and I knew I wanted to surprise her with the most breathtaking scenery. Danielle grew up on a lake, and Italy is where my family is from. She is an avid hiker and absolutely loves the views of the mountains in Lake Como.

I knew Carly was the one a long time ago… the way she cares for me and for all of her loved ones is unmatched. She beautiful inside and out and I am so lucky to be by her side for the rest of our lives!

The beauty of Lake Como and Bellagio made it an easy destination choice to pop the question!

What is your proposal story?

Our proposal story involved a lot of nerves on both sides! I was nervous because I wanted everything to go according to plan… Carly was nervous because she knew something was up! But I’m the end, the moment itself and the photo shoot afterwards was such a special way to commemorate the proposal.

Best tip for proposing in Lake Como

Couple things: - Stay in the town that you plan to propose in so that logistical issues are kept to a minimum - Make sure your partner does NOT wear heels. Good walking shoes or flats are a must in every Lake Como town - Try to avoid busy season. April was when we were in Como and the weather was really beautiful (mid-60’s). The closer it gets to June and July, the busier the lake gets. If you want to be able to access everything Lake Como has to offer with minimal lines and easy-to-make reservations, I would avoid busy season - Reach out to Matt to be your photographer :)
