1. Edgartown Harbor Light<\/b><\/h2>\n

Lighthouses are critical to Martha\u2019s Vineyard \u2014 the island is known for rocky shores and reefs and, due to choppy waters, lighthouses are not only beautiful, they\u2019re also necessary. \ud83d\udedf On Martha\u2019s Vineyard you\u2019ll find 5 lighthouses, and Edgartown Harbor Light is one of the island\u2019s most beautiful. This Edgartown lighthouse is located on Lighthouse Beach, and whether you\u2019re coming to just take a stroll on the beach or harbour, or if you want to climb to the top of the lighthouse for water views, you\u2019ll surely be met with scenic sights and ocean breezes. \ud83c\udf2c<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Edgartown City Streets<\/b><\/h2>\n

Another of our favourite places for photos on Martha\u2019s Vineyard is on the streets of Edgartown, a former whaling port, and now-popular destination due to its yachting events in Edgartown Harbor. \u2693\ufe0f Here, the homes and shops are both beautifully preserved and tremendously enjoyed by visitors and locals alike. Edgartown oozes with New England charm, and makes for amazing photos with a seaside small-town vibe! North Water Street is a particularly lovely street, perfect for taking photos while you\u2019re here in Edgartown.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fun fact: Edgartown is where the classic 1975 shark movie <\/span>Jaws<\/span><\/i> was filmed, and many of the shooting locations are still visible today, including the <\/span>Jaws<\/span><\/i> Bridge! \ud83d\ude31\ud83e\udd88<\/span><\/p>\n

Another great beach in Edgartown, and not far from the picturesque city streets, is South Beach. South Beach is wide open, and usually marked by bigger waves and gustier winds, making it a great spot for kite flying. \ud83e\ude81<\/span><\/p>\n

Chappaquiddick Island (also known as Chappy) is a small island\/peninsula (it changes!) and part of the town of Edgartown. \ud83d\udc1a Visitors love to come to Chappaquiddick Island for the biking, hiking, birding, and quiet beaches. It\u2019s another<\/span> really <\/span><\/i>lovely spot to take photos here on Martha\u2019s Vineyard.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

3. Oak Bluffs<\/b><\/h2>\n

Oak Bluffs is best known for its colourful \u201cgingerbread\u201d cottages and Flying Horse carousel (although the Oak Bluffs Harbor is the largest marina on Martha\u2019s Vineyard, so that\u2019s a pretty big deal too)!<\/span><\/p>\n

Oak Bluff\u2019s magical gingerbread cottages are a popular spot for tourists <\/span>and<\/span><\/i> photo enthusiasts; the gingerbread cottages at Oak Bluffs Campground are fun to walk by, or even rent! \ud83d\udc9d Many cottages are closed in the wintertime, but in the summer, the area is bustling with activity, including community movie nights, walking tours, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Flying Horse carousel is a national landmark, and is known as the oldest platform carousel in the United States! \ud83c\udfa0 Originally located on Coney Island, it was moved to Oak Bluffs in 1884 where it remains today (although it is <\/span>not <\/span><\/i>open year-round, so if you\u2019re here during non-peak season, be sure to check the hours).<\/span><\/p>\n

Photoshoots in Oak Bluffs are whimsical and romantic, so not only should it be on your list of best places to take photos, it should also just be on your list because of its lovely historical sights, views, and food. \ud83d\udc4d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

4. Vineyard Haven<\/b><\/h2>\n

Vineyard Haven is a town nestled in a scenic cove, and is also a main port of entry to Martha\u2019s Vineyard. Vineyard Haven is calm, charming, and a perfect place to watch the boats and ferries as they sail around the harbour. \ud83d\udcab It\u2019s also a beautiful place to take photos!<\/span><\/p>\n

While we\u2019re talking about Vineyard Haven, we have to mention biking on Martha\u2019s Vineyard. \ud83d\udeb2 With 44 miles of trails and roadways to use, biking is one of the best ways to see the beauty of Martha\u2019s Vineyard! Bikes are available to rent, and ferries are able to accommodate bikes should you be bringing your own. Towns like Vineyard Haven are perfect to explore by bike, and we highly recommend getting adventurous when it comes to exploring the island in new and opportune ways!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

5. Owen Park Beach<\/b><\/h2>\n

Owen Park Beach is a quaint little beach conveniently located near Vineyard Haven. \ud83d\udccd The main perk about Owen Park Beach is that it\u2019s <\/span>quiet<\/span><\/i> \u2014 being<\/span> not as well-known a beach means it\u2019s similarly not as popular with tourists and visitors to the Vineyard. The beach area isn\u2019t huge, but there are benches, swings, clean bathrooms, and even a dock where visitors can jump off into the water! 6. Aquinnah Cliffs<\/b><\/h2>\n

When you\u2019re imagining the coastline of Martha\u2019s Vineyard, it\u2019s likely a view like that of the Aquinnah Cliffs (formerly known as Gay Head Cliffs) that you are envisioning. The views of the cliffs and seaside are <\/span>magnificent <\/span><\/i>\u2014 rough and dabbled with greenery, leading sharply down to the sandy, blue waters below. These clay cliffs are a national landmark, sure to take your breath away. \ud83d\udcaf<\/span><\/p>\n

Aquinnah is Martha\u2019s Vineyard\u2019s westernmost town (about a 20-minute drive from Vineyard Haven); Aquinnah Cliffs overlooks the neighbouring Gay Head Light (the oldest lighthouse on Martha\u2019s Vineyard). If you can swing it, we recommend a sunset stroll here \u2014 talk about world-class views! \ud83c\udf05<\/span><\/p>\n

7. Aquinnah Public Beach<\/b><\/h2>\n

Near the base of the Aquinnah Cliffs is Aquinnah Public Beach. \u26f1 With jaw-dropping views of the ocean water and high-above cliffs, a stroll along this beach is a feast for the eyes (not to mention a photographer\u2019s dream)! <\/span><\/p>\n

Some helpful tips: 1) this is a busy beach particularly on weekends, so take that into consideration when it comes to driving\/parking; 2) the beach can change quite a lot during high tide, and the water can be rough and not as clear as in other areas of the island when it comes to swimming.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

8. Lambert\u2019s Cove Beach<\/b><\/h2>\n

Lambert\u2019s Cove Beach is special, with soft sand more akin to a tropical locale rather than the rocky shores common elsewhere on the island. With its fine sand and clear waters, this is an ideal beach in many ways. Please note that Lambert\u2019s Cove Beach is a private beach, only accessible to residents and those staying in the area (think rental property or hotel\/inn), so if you\u2019re looking for something secluded and special, keep that in mind when you schedule your Martha\u2019s Vineyard accommodations! \ud83d\ude0e<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

9. Menemsha Beach<\/b><\/h2>\n

Menemsha Beach is a perfect family beach here on Martha\u2019s Vineyard! Close to town, it is easily accessible, with calm, clear water. Be sure to grab some food (there are lots of delicious options nearby \ud83e\udd9e) and head to the beach to enjoy a relaxing day or a beautiful picnic with the best sunset views.<\/span><\/p>\n
