Meet Alex, our traveller of the week. He and his mother had taken a memorable Mediterranean cruise together which departed from Barcelona<\/a>, so naturally the city holds a special place in his heart. Since his mother\u2019s passing, however, Alex found himself avoiding a return trip to Spain, worried he would no longer be able to enjoy his time there. Thankfully, he was mistaken.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Gothic architecture, the fabulous beaches, the food, the fashion \u2013 all of these things made my time in Barcelona this go-around a truly phenomenal experience. \u2018There\u2019s no place like this in the world,\u2019 a local told me. \u2018You won\u2019t find any place like it.\u2019 True, indeed. 6 Questions with Alex<\/h2>\n

What do you love most about travel?<\/strong>
\nI think it\u2019s discovering completely new places by yourself and with others. We all know the typical tourist sites that occupy particular places, but walking off the main path and discovering the culture in different ways \u2013 be it a small restaurant, a new person, or a picture-worthy isolated cobblestone street \u2013 is a real joy.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the most memorable trip that you\u2019ve taken?<\/strong>
\nSo, so many. I enjoyed going to Egypt for the first time with my mother a few years ago. Seeing the great American West with my dad, including the Grand Canyon, was also sublime. Any time I get to travel with family and friends and share in the experience with them makes for a memorable event.<\/p>\n

What inspired you to take this trip? What did you love most about your trip to Barcelona? Do you have recommendations?<\/strong>
\nBarcelona<\/a> is a city bubbling with personality at all ends. The architecture is so unique and beautiful, as are the beaches and the people. I think it\u2019s a coastal paradise that doesn\u2019t seem as commercialized as some of its U.S. brethren. It\u2019s relaxed, sweeping, and historic in nature. I\u2019d recommend staying a day in the city to take in the architecture and art, go see a game at the soccer stadium if possible one day, and then lounge on the beach for the rest of your stay.<\/p>\n

Any advice for solo travellers?<\/strong>
\nJust be open to exploring those different paths I discussed earlier. Barcelona is a city bustling with fantastic restaurants, shops, and sites just beneath the surface of the prominent tourist sites. Explore them!<\/p>\n

What is your biggest takeaway from this trip?<\/strong>
\nFor a solo traveller, just allow yourself time to take everything in. When I\u2019m with groups, it\u2019s easy to over-plan everything \u2013 the constant scheduling can drain you. Having a relaxed time frame that fits to your desires can be perfect for making a trip you\u2019ll never forget.<\/p>\n

Where are you planning to travel next?<\/strong>
\nSo many potential places to see! I\u2019m leaning towards Buenos Aires<\/a>. Similar to Barcelona in many ways, but with a different flare. Can\u2019t wait!<\/p>\n
