1. New York City<\/a><\/h3>\n

New York City has long been a favourite destination for the LGBTQ traveller. Same-sex marriage has been legal in NYC for 4 years now, and the city has deep roots in gay activism. Visit the culturally significant Stonewall Inn<\/a> on Christopher Street<\/a>, Lesbian Herstory Archives<\/a> in Brooklyn, or The Center<\/a> in Greenwich Village<\/a> for resources & support. Stay at trendy The OUT NYC<\/a> or discover a friendly B&B<\/a> for a more down-home feel. Start your night in the Theatre District<\/a> (scoop up ticket deals at TKTS<\/a>) and later, meander over to neighbouring Hell\u2019s Kitchen<\/a> to keep the good times rolling.<\/p>\n

2. Berlin<\/a><\/h3>\n

With a former gay mayor<\/a> and thriving community, Berlin is on the cutting-edge of all things new and exciting. Stay at Axel Hotel<\/a> or ArtHotel Connection<\/a>, and make a cultural stop at the Schwules Museum<\/a>. The eclectic bar scene includes Silver Future<\/a>, Berghain<\/a>, and M\u00f6bel-Olfe<\/a>. Be there for next year\u2019s Christopher Street Day<\/a> and Pride Parade<\/a>, one of Central Europe\u2019s biggest parties.<\/p>\n

3. Auckland<\/a><\/h3>\n

With progressive laws and prominent gay & lesbian Members of Parliament, including the world\u2019s first openly-transg<\/a>endered<\/a> mayor and MP<\/a>, New Zealand offers an official welcome to travellers. Same-sex marriage was legalized in 2013 (prompting many Australians to wed within their southern neighbour\u2019s borders). Find accommodation all over the country run by LGBTQ owners<\/a> and a network of gay-friendly businesses. Next year\u2019s Auckland Pride Festival<\/a> coincides with the 4th Asia-Pacific Outgames<\/a> in February, so start planning for this massive event now!<\/p>\n

4. Toronto<\/a><\/h3>\n

The home of the world\u2019s first legalized same-sex marriage<\/a> (in January 2001), Toronto has long been a world-class destination for travellers of all kinds. The Village<\/a> is the traditional neighbourhood of the LGBTQ community, but the city itself has no boundaries<\/a> for visitors and locals alike. The 519<\/a> offers excellent programs and resources; art galleries, trendy caf\u00e9s and fashionable folk are found in West Queen West<\/a>. On a hot summer day, take the ferry to Hanlan\u2019s <\/a>Point<\/a>, one of only two clothing-optional beaches in Canada. Don\u2019t miss Pride Toronto<\/a>, a gigantic 10-day celebration that includes art exhibitions, social meet-ups, the Trans March, Dyke March and Pride Parade.<\/p>\n

5. Paris<\/a><\/h3>\n

No list is complete without Paris, City of Light and Love. Though other cities may have surpassed it for progressiveness, Paris retains an inimitable charm and romance. The gay epicentre resides in Le Marais<\/a> in the 4th, with a fantastic selection of restaurants, clubs<\/a> and businesses. Stay in nearby H\u00f4tel Jules & Jim<\/a> or Hotel Gabriel Paris<\/a>. If you travel to Paris in the winter, check out the Ch\u00e9ries-Ch\u00e9ris 2015 LGBTQ+ Film Festival (note to filmmakers: you still have time to submit entries<\/a>!). La Marche des Fiert\u00e9s de Paris<\/a> is France\u2019s largest Pride Parade occurring each June, and in August 2018, Paris will host the Gay Games 10<\/a> \u2013 mark your calendars!<\/p>\n
