Everyone loves a good comeback story.<\/h2>\n

In 1962, Finnish industrial designer Eero Saarinen designed what was, at the time, a neo-futuristic TWA Flight Centre at JFK Airport in New York City. Fast forward a few decades, the airport\u2019s needs grew and grew, and eventually, Saarinen\u2019s building was closed to switch operations to a larger terminal. It sat unused, and forgotten\u2014or so we thought. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

This May, the defunct terminal has been reopened, and reimagined, as the TWA Hotel<\/span><\/a>. Taking cues from Saarinen\u2019s design, this new hotel is a mid-century modern lover\u2019s ultimate dream come true.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Designer Rooms<\/h2>\n

Each room (of which there are 512) features mid-century modern furnishings straight out of the set of Mad Men<\/i>. There are Saarinen chairs and side tables, authentic Knoll furnishings (also designed by Saarinen), a vintage rotary phone (that makes free international calls), walnut for days, a full martini bar and Hollywood-style bathroom, all set against the backdrop of big windows of airplanes touching down or taking to the skies. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Next-Level Amenities<\/h2>\n

Even the amenities are cool. Shampoo, conditioner, hair spray, shave cream, after shave are all exact replicas of the vintage TWA toiletries kit. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Sunken Lounge<\/h2>\n

The Sunken Lounge is a cocktail bar set in Saarinen\u2019s revamped airport seating area. Historically, it gets even cooler, as this was the same place crowds gathered to welcome the Beatles<\/i> in 1965. Everything is red carpet and it\u2019s peppered with Saarinen tulip tables\u2014you\u2019re going to love it. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Connie Airplane Bar<\/h2>\n

A 60-year-old airplane, the Connie L-1649A, has been turned into (hyperbole 100% appropriate) the coolest, retro airport bar on the planet. The hotel design team found and purchased this rare plane, restored it beyond its former glory, and now it sits just outside the hotel as a plane you can board that\u2019s also a cocktail bar. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A Jean-Georges Restaurant<\/h2>\n

They call this space \u201cJean-Georges meets the Jet Age.\u201d The JG superpower of restaurateurs sets up shop at JFK with a cool medium-price point Paris Cafe-style restaurant. It serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and cocktails\u2014all with that sweet air traffic view. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Pool Bar Overlooking the Tarmac<\/h2>\n

It\u2019s not open yet, but there will be a rooftop infinity pool with a big deck that has a view of the whole airport! What?! And it\u2019s going to be open 365 days a year, as it turns into a jacuzzi in the fall. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
