Their Story

Kathleen: “My husband, Mark, and I love to travel. In the past year and a half, we’ve travelled to Banff and the Canadian Rockies, Paris, Versailles, Nice, Monaco, St. Tropez, London, New York City, Montréal, and Las Vegas. This past April, I also just went on a bucket list month-long solo trip to Australia, Bali, Indonesia, and Singapore. So with my big 3-0 right around the corner, I had a few people ask me what my plans are to celebrate. I didn’t even have to think twice. I didn’t want to party. I just wanted to travel!

“I love seeing the world, learning about other cultures, and experiencing new adventures.  Travel opens my mind, and makes my heart and soul happy. It fulfills me. I thought, what better way to celebrate a milestone birthday than by doing something that I absolutely love? So to celebrate my 30th birthday, I booked a trip to San Francisco!

“If I had to choose my favourite memory, I would say it was seeing the Golden Gate Bridge up close at sunset. I have seen photos of it from when my parents went a few years back, but seeing it for myself and getting to walk on it really made me appreciate the beauty and grandiose of this structure. It was breathtaking. Other than that, we loved the food scene out there! There is so much variety. From dim sum to fresh seafood to food trucks, everything we tried was delicious!

“We were warned by friends and family to dress in layers because San Francisco weather is unpredictable. We were lucky, however, because it was unseasonably warm and the skies were always clear! The locals kept making comments to us like: ‘You guys picked the warmest days of the year to visit!’ I mean, just look at our photos at Baker Beach. This is Northern California, and we were frolicking in the water in an October evening!

“My city tip: take advantage of San Francisco’s public transportation system. My husband and I try to live like locals when we travel, so we rode the Muni, bus, BART train from the airport, street car, and, of course, the infamous cable cars! We also walked a lot up and down those hilly streets. What a perfect way to burn off all the yummy foods that we had on this trip!

For people who love photos (like my husband and me), Flytographer is such a brilliant way to capture memories from our travels. Flytographer Megan was super-awesome and talented! We had specific ideas in mind regarding the location and the vibe of our shoot, and she worked with us to make them possible. She made our experience so much fun and laid-back! It felt like we were just hanging out with a long-time friend. Thanks so much, Megan, for capturing my 30th birthday trip memories in San Francisco. The photos definitely give us something that we can look back on that we will always cherish!
