We’re taking major inspiration from Ria and her 40th birthday solo trip to Rome. She fed her love of solo travel with a trip to Italy’s gorgeous capital city just for her. Gelato and tiramisu for lunch? Sure, why not? Read on for all the details.

“I love travelling alone and for my 40th birthday, I left my hubby with the kids and travelled to ‘the Eternal City.’ I ate gelato and tiramisu for lunch and dinner most of the time.

“My favourite memory was seeing the Trevi Fountain from my hotel’s rooftop bar and falling in love with it! Feeling like a gladiator on the Colosseum’s arena floor was also unforgettable. Book your entrance to the Sistine Chapel one hour before the general public and you’ll get to admire the frescoes in serenity with just a handful of people.

“Having portraits is important to me. They serve as a reminder for me of the time I was young when I grow old. Also, they will serve as a memory for my kids. One day, they are going to want to see pictures of me to remind them of when I was their mama when they were young children.

“I enjoyed the shoot with Roberta so much. She put me at ease from the minute we met. At the end of the shoot, it felt as if I was saying goodbye to an old friend. The pictures are a perfect reminder of my solo trip to Rome to celebrate my 40th birthday. I will treasure these photos for the rest of my life.” – Ria
